You ask a difficult question. There is no way to know the precise GFSZ boundaries. Law enforcement typically draws a circle scaled at 1000 feet and centered on the school building. That of course is incorrect. The GFSZ statute 948.695 specifically states the boundary is measured from the edge of school property. School property is very seldom round. In most cases it is an irregular polygon. That creates the fundamental problem with enforcing the school GFSC zone, especially if a person happens to be near the outer fringe of it. Law enforcement itself has difficulty determining the precise boundary. A recent court case was determined to the benefit of the defendant because of the difficulty.

If you don't know the school zones, you cannot claim you knowingly went into one and it would be hard pressed to turn you into a felon.

Is there an easy way find out the boundaries of a GFSC so I can follow the letter of the law?

If you are WALKING on the sidewalk, then the GFSZA is an issue. IF you are traveling by car, and going to any place with "off street (private)" parking, then the GFSZA does NOT apply.

If you are from the Baraboo or surrounding area, come on over to the picnic on Saturday the 25th. www.wisconsincarry.org/events.html

There will be time to answer many questions.

It is really very easy.
First get some 1000Ft strings and start at the edge of the school property and stretch them out to full length.
Once you have done this, now take another piece of string and connect all of the ends to it as you make a complete circle around the school.
When finished, get some blue paint and a paint roller and start painting the outer circle blue until you have completely circled the entire school with a large blue line. Now on the inside of the circle place the mark GFSZ so everyone knows.

But don't put the blue line on any private property!
