IANAL, but there is nothing in Wisconsin law that I know of that requires magazines to be visible. AFAIK, you can carry them pretty much any way you choose.

It is not possible to make a factual statement about the non-existence of something without examining the entire universe of discourse.

I can say that I have searched, in the past, the entire copy of the Wisconsin statutes, that I have, for similar questions without finding anything related.

Short direct answer is that you may conceal them.

I'm not sure why a clip would need to be exposed, but I'm not too well versed in OC long guns.

And the ones on the bottom are clips for a revolver, so they're not just for long guns. I think speed loaders and the like would be classed as "clips" too. :P

So is the anal retentiveness LOL but I'm with ya. Next time I'm just going to make sure the word "magazine" is bold and red in a post when replying to someone that wrongly uses the word "clip".

All I am going to say is that it is easy to be a nomenclature Nazi regarding clig/mag when you are hiding behind a keyboard. Alot of people jump on others for using "clip". But... I guarantee you that in person you will find very knowledgeable and competent people who know the difference but will still say clip. These same people do not take kindly to others taking it upon themselves to try and correct them.

conceal them all you want. not a firearm.

I'm sure in Madison you'll be detained and asked for ID, even if only openly carrying a ammo carrier

If they are truly ignorant of the difference, they are generally more receptive. That is not what I am referring to...

I can think of at least one semi-auto HANDGUN that takes a clip--- the "Broomhandle" Mauser. There may be others, but none occur to me off the top of my head.

Here's pic if you don't believe me:

I catch myself misusing the term "Clip" on rare occasions. It's a very hard habit to break considering most all movies misuse the term. I do tend to correct most people (some you can tell just don't care) and do it in a polite way. I work with a bunch of Clip/mag nazis so when I use it I get called out when I say it.

It helps to know a bit about them as there are a number of different "Clips"

An SKS uses a Stripper Clip.
A M1 Garand uses an En Bloc Clip
A Revolver can uses either a Half or Full Moon Clip

Once you get the differences down they look very different from a magazine.

Mausers are about the only handgun I can recall atm that use a stripper clip. I have been known, when I'm in a fowl mood, to hand some one a loaded Mauser clip when they ask for "a clip fo my nine"
“The 1911 pistol remains the service pistol of choice in the eyes of those who understand the problem. Back when we audited the FBI academy in 1947, I was told that I ought not to use my pistol in their training program because it was not fair. Maybe the first thing one should demand of his sidearm is that it be unfair.” — Col. Jeff Cooper, GUNS & AMMO, January 2002

I correct people on that all the time, too. Of course, I also correct people on steps/stairs, nude/naked, balcony/deck, and a whole bunch of others.
