This is one of the ploys anti's use to argue for more strict gun control laws in the "lax" border states of such cities. They argue that these states need to have much tough gun control laws in order to stem the tide of "illegal" guns making their way into cities such as Washington, DC, New York Chicago, etc. In fact, the revserse should be instituted: relax the gun control laws within the cities and watch things change quickly.

One of the cheapest things that can be done to lower crime is to make firearms more available to citizens and to carry this several steps further by instituting carry permit laws and even open carry. This costs a city or state very little in comparison with other measures which have been tried to reduce crime.

    Cool Different day, same BS.

Gee, the study from the (Bloomberg controlled) mayors' group comes to a negative conclusion about Virginia's gun laws. Stop the presses!!

Bloomberg's endless drivel about others states' gun laws gets less traction than ever. The Daily Press version here was about half a column buried in an inside page. It should have been published in the opinion section, or better still, the comics.

A study from Massachussets a few years ago found that New York State, and NYC in particular were the sources of a large percentage of their "illegal guns". I never heard what Bloomberg did about that. Maybe someone in NYC needs to start a group that looks into the matter.

I think the third page of the PDF file....

really outlines IN DETAIL the specific impact and new discoveries of this report. it also explains in detail the authority that mayor Blumburg has in the state of Virginia.

Best summary of a report I've ever read!

Lightbulb DC/NY: two of the biggest importers of illegal arms

    Hmm..according to the report...

Virginia provided 5.9% of the guns from out of state that were used in illegal activities. But then again, this is from a report that thinks the District is a state (Chart on page 6)

And the District (75.2:1), New York (7.0:1) and New Jersey (7.4:1) are the chief IMPORTERS of guns...now is it easier to control and EXPORT of guns or the IMPORTER (the criminal?)

In other words, Mr. mayor...your report says your cops SUCK at doing their jobs. But it's NOT the cops...it's the courts that keep putting these criminals back on the streets.

Lets make sure our own house is clean, Mr. Mayors!

One thing that this report does fairly well is that it documents the law of supply and demand. It also points out where the demand is highest, and shows that such demand is met by enterprising individuals (albeit criminals) who manage to locate a supply of a product that is in high demand.

Another interesting point which seems to be made in this report is that the states should step up and do the fed's job for it. BATFE can't meet its own annual recommendation for FFL record checks, so of course the states should fill the gap. (Can you say Arizona?)

As for the (victim) states into which all these crime guns are imported, there doesn't seem to be much in this report indicating how these places curb this type of criminal activity.

Oh, yeah: It seems that 70% of all crime guns don't cross state lines. Hmmm.

Why aren't the criminals held accountable? They are responsible for the demand. bet they're not US citizens either. blame the US for MEXICAN CRIMINALS-PRICELESS.

And in a related story it is reported that over 90% of the rocks used to stone the Mexican mayor came from the U.S. Hillary Clinton is moving to require registration of all rocks from VA, FL and any other state where the rocks can be traced to. YUP, ROCK CONTROL.

Nova you can't blame the criminals. it's the folks in VA's fault. These other cities can't control the dirtbags in their own cities, so take away the right from citizens that can exercise their right in another state. makes sense to me.
