Encounter with DPS while OC'ing tonight

I was riding my motorcycle back to Sierra Vista following the AWESOME AZCDL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, when a traffic accident which did not involve me (but almost did) occurred. I pulled off at the next available exit (Benson) and called 911 to report the accident. The dispatcher told me to stay put and that DPS would be contacting me.

A while later, a DPS car rolled up. I was still OC'ing my Glock 22 from the meeting earlier but it was partially concealed under my riding jacket. As the officer got out of his car, I put my hands out in front plainly and said "Sir I just want to let you know I'm carrying my sidearm," to which he replied "I see it." That was pretty much the bulk of it; he did not ask for it or take custody or anything. I gave him my statement and he left. Very positive and courteous overall.

Thanks for the plug!

Wow! You rode your scooter all the way from Sierra Vista? I'm impressed! Bet you got soaked in the storms.

It was nice meeting you!

A good encounter with DPS and a hell of a long distance ride on a motorcycle.

It was not as bad as I initially feared. I did stop in Casa Grande to wait out the dust storms and ate .39 tacos at the Del Taco. I went through a little rain but according to my weather channel thing on my phone I was about to get drenched but thankfully that never materialized. I was bone dry by the time I got home.

Encounter with LE

I OC every time I ride, and have NEVER had even so much as a second look from any Law Enforcement. The only time I had one of them say ANYTHING was on 101 and McDowell (east side of the valley) at a car show at the McDonalds,, because I was on Reservation land and wasn't aware of it. Great guy, wonderful attitude, big smile, very friendly and explained that most people don't realize it is reservation land..

I was working on the big Star Firestar 30MI yesterday and decided to OC the Star while food shopping. 30MI fits inside a SIG P6 German made holster.

First stop was IHOP on Grant/Rosemont for dinner and chat with hot new waitress from Komyforynia. Young manager told me he's grateful some patrons OC or CC in his restaurant. He said it sends a message to the BG's.

Next stop was Fry's Food market on Swan near Grant. As usual not a peep from anyone.

<sigh> freedom in Arizona.

So what did he have to say about it. Did he have you put it in a box or or leave immediately. Fill us in on the rest of the story.

+1... I'd be curious to know as well. I've been to the Pavillions car show before and had heard that it was indeed reservation land, but I don't think I've ever heard of any OC encounters there so this would be good info. Also, what department was it that you encountered? DPS? Tribal? Scottsdale?

I used to work near there. The only McDonalds I've seen is on McDowell and Hayden which is not on the Res.

I have never seen any Res. in Arizona allow business's on their land other than farms, smoke-shops, casinos, resorts and mom and pop organizations. Well except for that gas station across from the Fort McDowell Casino. So generally speaking, if you see development, you're not on the Res.

I thought the entire Scottsdale Pavilions shopping center (including the McDonalds where the car show is every Saturday night) was on reservation land? It's east of Pima.

Sharkey obviously hasn't spent much time in Arizona for a few years or had his eyes closed while traveling around. You need to come back and visit some time.

Edit: Just noticed Sharkey is listed as Arizona Resident. Is that for real?

For real. I never go to the Pavilions but if Michael had said on Indian Bend and not McDowell maybe I would have got it right. :cuss: There is no McDonalds on McDowell east of Hayden.
