From the article (and I saw it on TV, as well):
My father served 30 years in the U.S. Navy. Upon his retirement, we he spoke of his two boys, whom we had to "endure" his comparatively infrequent absences, he choked up. That's family, the ultimate foundation of our country, whether your family was good, mediocre, rotten to the core, or simply absent, if not left in another country.
WE'RE family. We're Americans. We have a Constitution. We know what's right and wrong. We stand for what's right, and we stand against that which is wrong, but we always do so in accordance with the law. We are citizens. If the law is amiss, we write letters, appear in legislature, and do whatever is required in order to ensure our Country as founded by our Founding Fathers, marches on with their goals as enumerated in both their Declaration of Independance as well as our Constitution and its Amendments, marches on.

"The fighting was ferocious," Obama said, recounting the recollection of comrades who survived. "Rob seemed to disappear into clouds of dust and debris, but his team could hear him on the radio, still calling out the enemy's position ... And then, over the radio, they heard his voice. He had been hit."
