I am currently at the library and there is a sign on the window banning firearms. I have eaten at Subway in the past before this law took effect with pepper spray in my purse and wasn't bothered.

Who has the sign? The library or Subway? IIRC, Subway follows state law.

Ace Hardware Sussex is posted. Just seen it today.

I tell ya, hows a guy supposed to get any shopping done when 2/3 of the stores you go to are posted no firearms :banghead:

Stopped at my bank in Weyauwega (Marshall Ilsley) today and the bimbo behind the counter told me that they would most definitely be posted. I asked if the brain trust at the bank was naive enough to imagine that a sign would stop a robber with a gun? She said "we just don't want a couple of local drunks walking in the bank shooting up the place".

I then asked her if she was a natural blonde or if she dyed her hair to lose that much common sense, before I walked....

Now, I must find a new bank.

After seeing the post on WCI's facebook page with Landmark posting, I wanted to see for myself in Sussex. Sure enough, it was posted. So I called the helpdesk line and asked to speak with a manager (I did not catch his name :(). I told him about the liability issue, how many applications had been downloaded, asked how many he thinks would be customers and how many would have been customers. After being there for 10 years, carrying for 2.5 and not having any issues, I would be taking my business elsewhere. Oh, I also told him I opened my business account at the Waukesha location while I was armed. I think Nik said WCI has their account with Associated. I think I found a new bank.

EHSI has put out a memo banning weapons at their downtown corporate offices as well as well as all their nationwide facilities. Signs have apparently been ordered.

The Great Dane Brew Pub in Madison, Wisconsin just posted a no guns sign. I contacted Eliot Butler, the co-owner vis-a-vis the contact us link on their website: http://www.greatdanepub.com/. Perhaps they need a ton of negative reviews? Anyhow, this is his response:

Thanks for the free advice David!

BTW - Eliot,

I am also an attorney. Here is some free advice. You may want to carry your well-read copy of the concealed carry law and go meet with your outside counsel. By placing the "magical sign" out front, you have ASSUMED certain liabilities under Wisconsin law, see specifically, Wis. Stat. § 175.60(21)(b): "(b) A person that does not prohibit an individual from carrying a concealed weapon on property that the person owns or occupies is immune from any liability arising from its decision."

I find it disingenous for you to write that your staff would have to deal with unruly or intoxicated patrons with weapons, but your sign only really addresses those who carry legally and those who have been drinking. Both are illegal under the law and don't need your magical sign. More importantly, the easier solution is to call the police. If someone who has a concealed carry does in fact cause such problems, they will lose their permit, which for many, has been a long time coming. People who voluntarily go to get fingerprinted, pay a fee and submit to a background check as a general rule do not get intoxicated and act unruly. Quite the opposite. Moreover, if you have been in business 18 years and have not had an gun violence, then you must be afraid of your patrons who wish to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights because your fear of increased violence will come to fruition now that concelaed carry is legal in Wisconsin.

As I indicated, in Missouri, you can drink and carry. There are no problems because people there do not want to lose their license and get stuck with a felony on their record. I was just in a St. Louis, Missouri bar last week while watching the World Series. I had my sidearm with me. I had one drink and drank cranberry juice the rest of the night. Everyone in my party enjoyed themselves and knew that when it came time to walk back to their cars that night, we had a chance to defend ourselves from muggings, rape and murder.

Moreover, I never said the environment in your pubs was less safe. It is the outside world I worry about. If I don't have my weapon on me, will you make sure a police officer escorts me to my car? What will you tell a woman who ordinarily would have a weapon on her to protect her from rape and assault once she leaves the safe confines of your establishment? Will you apologize and give her a free drink on Ladies' night? In SC, the sheriff finally admitted he cannot protect people. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSZN-iL0hL8&feature=player_embedded

Not trying to debate, but you may want to look into that new liability the magical sign now brings with it. And yes, I will enjoy a fine craft beer (good ain't good enough) somewhere. As will the over 80,000 people who downloaded concealed carry applications on November 1st from the DOJ website. Extrapolate that number out to the estimated 500,000 people in Wisconsin who will obtain a permit as well as the residents of the other 48 states that allow some form of concealed carry, and you will have a broad audience of patrons who go somewhere else to enjoy a fine craft beer, especially when they start to read your illogical conclusions as posted on social media.

Take care.

Subject: concealed carry

Hi David,
Thanks for taking the time to communicate your opinions to me and The Great Dane! Sorry you disagree with our decision to keep legally concealed guns out of our pubs. Despite your assumptions, I AM aware that folks who carry a concealed weapon are not allowed to drink while they carry and I AM ALSO aware that 49 states now have some sort of concealed carry law. (When you do an interview for the news they don't air the entire interview!) I do not care to argue about or be lectured on statistics or various interpretations of the second amendment. I will, however, take a moment to respond to your two points: 1-I do not consider people who legally carry a concealed weapon "less trustworthy" than other patrons, I simply do not want my staff to be forced to deal with unruly or intoxicated patrons who may have a loaded firearm on their persons, and this law increases that probability. It does not matter to a gun victim if the shooter has a permit for their weapon. 2-We have been operating for 18 years without legal concealed carry and have had no gun related violence, so there is little logic to say that the environment in our pubs is less safe now than it was last week. You may believe that allowing legally concealed weapons into the pubs will make our staff and guests safer, but we don't. Please respect our right to disagree with you. I hope you enjoy good craft beer with good people in peace and prosperity somewhere...
Cheers,
Eliot Butler

Went to Northern Brewer today to get a CO2 tank refilled for my tapper and found the no firearm sign on the doors. When asked when they posted, the lady laughed and said on the first ( like I was supposed to know ) sarcastic little b@#$

Don't know if it's been listed yet, but my son reported that PDQ on Buckeye Rd. in Madison was posted. Perhaps it's the entire PDQ chain?

There is a PDQ in Brookfield. If that one is posted, I'll move it into the corporate section.

Chase Tower in Downtown Milwaukee is posted. I'll point out that the building isn't actually owned by Chase - I believe the bank sold it a number of years ago to a Canadian real estate firm Brookfield Asset Management. They've apparently elected to prevent visitors and tenants from carrying in the building. The notice, while probably 5x7 is rather non-descript and not readily noticeable in my opinion.

They can't enforce the property. Added to the list

West Allis Memorial Hospital posted "Firearms and weapons prohibited".
