Hello one and all. This is my first post in the WV section but this is a news story that "someone" seems to be trying to hid from someone, or possibly from everyone! The story was posted on The Charleston Gazette and then was pulled off the papers site page, odd at best! But alas, I recovered the article via a little used method. ;) Here's the article as it ran:

"Almost any criminal, psycho, drunk, wife-basher, drug addict or other prohibited person can buy a pistol illegally at a gun show - no questions asked. Test after test has found that many gun show dealers, licensed or unlicensed, sell deadly weapons to practically anyone with money, evading federal laws that forbid sales to the unfit.

After 32 people were killed in the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, a victim's brother went to gun shows and bought a trunkload of weapons, without background screening. His expose was filmed and broadcast by ABC News.

University of California students visited 78 gun shows in 19 states, secretly snapping photos as dealers sold them pistols without performing background checks. The university report was titled: "Inside Gun Shows: What Goes On When Everybody Thinks Nobody's Watching."

Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bipartisan coalition, likewise documented unlawful pistol sales at shows.

Last fall, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg revealed a "sting." His office sent 40 private agents to seven gun shows in three states. The agents told dealers they wanted to buy pistols for others who couldn't pass background checks. Secret videos were taken. Sixteen of 17 licensed dealers failed the integrity test, and 19 of 30 private sellers did likewise.

Well, the West Virginia Legislature took action on this outrage. What did senators and delegates do? In the last hours of the 2010 regular session, lawmakers overwhelmingly passed a bill - that could protect the crooked gun dealers, and jail those who expose them.

Senate Bill 515, passed on the final day, makes it a felony to "entice" a dealer into an illegal sale. Specifically, the new law says:

"A person who knowingly solicits, persuades, encourages or entices a licensed dealer or private seller of firearms or ammunition to transfer a firearm or ammunition under circumstances which the person knows would violate the laws of this state or the United States is guilty of a felony."

If the new law is designed to punish illegal buyers, that's fine. But it might jail researchers testing the system. The California university students who were sold illegal pistols by shady dealers could go to prison under this law. So could the brother of the Virginia Tech victim. So could the private purchasers sent by Mayor Bloomberg.

The law exempts "a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity" - but it doesn't exempt those private groups exposing crooked dealers.

As we've noted many times, West Virginia legislators invariably do the bidding of the powerful gun lobby. In the House of Delegates, only six members were brave enough to oppose S.B. 515, which they scornfully dubbed the "Bloomberg bill." The six included four Kanawha Countians - Danny Wells, Bonnie Brown, Nancy Guthrie and Bobbi Hatfield - plus Delegate John Doyle, D-Jefferson and Delegate Pat McGeehan, R-Hancock.

In the Senate, support was unanimous, 34-0. We assume that Kanawha County's four conscientious senators didn't realize that the law could imprison college student researchers.

Gov. Manchin should veto this travesty and demand that it be revised."

As with all lies, there is a measure of truth, otherwise even the fools in society would see right through the story! This was passed into law because of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his federally illegal "straw purchases" of weapons via illegal means! This was NOTY enacted because of the college students or other private individuals though this new law would make it ilegal for ANYONE other than federal, state, or local LEO's acting via legal actions. Do not fall for the lie that this was passed to "attack" innocent college students, it wasn't! It was enacted to prevent a liberal Obama-ite that has plans to "rid America" of the "awful weapons". Bloomberg pictures himself as our "saviour" from these "awful weapons"! Virginia has passed a law exactly like this one, so I've heard. They have promised to "arrest Bloomberg's agents" when caught and to prosecute them to the fullest extent under federal law. In fact, the individual states themselves really need not pass these laws being that the federal government already has these laws in place but it just adds to the prosecuting power when and if caught illegally purchasing weapons in the states.

I posted this here for many reasons. Mainly to bring this back into the light of day that they're trying to subvert this story because it's a LIE! Additionally, with elections coming up, perhaps some of those that dared to vote against this will get voted out of office, if any of them are running for ANYTHING in WV.
