Visiting Nevada in 3 wks.

Hey All,

I will be visiting your awesome state in a few weeks with my ma for her 69th bday. I am from Washington and can conceal through Idaho. Been reading and it is good to see that I can open carry in holster while driving. We were planing on possibly going to Reno, not sure yet. What is the law when going into casino? I was not able to pull up the statutes on my pc for some reason. If you could pm me or send e-mail at sgweeg@msn.com that would be great. It is good to see that some states are super friendly to oc'ing. Here in Vancouver, WA we are having a tough time, had a couple of incidents that went to court and went bad for our side. You cannot pull up the statute on carrying in a casino because there are no statues. Casinos are private property and regulate their own rules as to allowing or not allowing firearms on property. As a rule, most do not allow firearms on property they may or may not post it at the entrance. If one enters past a no firearms allowed sign posted on private property (casino) with a firearm no law has been broken, just the property rules. Their recourse is to ask you to leave or lock the firearm up. If for whatever reason a person decided not to leave or comply with the rules when asked, the property can get the law involved on a trespass. With that said, most casinos have a well-trained security force. Depending on the actions of the person that has been asked to leave it could get very unpleasant. There have been some postings on open carry dot org of person open carrying in some of the casinos in Las Vegas without being ran out.

Thank you very much. That is good to know. I have no problem checking my pistol in to the hotel safe. I just wanted to know if they would freak out about it. I want to be on the up and up while visiting. Getting arrested for any reason would just suck...lol.

I generally do not advocate this unless you plan to be in the casino where you are staying and your room doesn't have a room safe. That said, I have done this in Mesquite under those very circumstances. One thing I leaned, I recommend bringing a case to store your firearm when you check into security's lock up, and put your own lock on the case. This renders you harmless from any civil liability if someone takes your firearm from the lock-up and uses it to commit a crime as you have now taken a more than reasonable precaution to prevent any misuse, and if for no other reason it will prevent any scratch and dents due to mishandling.
