In which Office would Rob McKenna serve Gun Owners best?

There are two offices in Washington State that will be up for grabs in 2012. It will be an opportunity to replace both Maria Cantwell as US Senator and Christine Gregoire.

My question for the Washington members of this Forum is "In which office would Rob McKenna do the most for Gun Owners? Would we all be better off with him serving as Governor or would he serve the "Big Picture" better in Washington DC?

It is my belief that we all wait far to long to make changes and when the time arrives we have to choose from whomever passes the "smell test". For a change, why not discuss the merits of those who might be good candidates and start building support for them. The problem with Conservatives in general is that they tend to be far too Conservative in their approach to future elections. It's time to get just as fanatical as the Liberals, with just better candidates than they come up with.

(Note: All this assumes Rob McKenna would run for either office but I offer this question for discussion)

Tough call. I'd probably prefer to see him take on Gregoire. WA gun laws aren't bad, but they could be better. I suspect he'd be better able to enact legislative change at the state level than over in D.C. where one senator's vote only goes so far.

I've been given the impression that he's more interested in the governor's mansion that the US Senate, but I could be mistaken. I'd vote for him in either race.

Probably only after a term as Senator or Governor. Needs National notice and name recognition before that step. I agree though.

The office he is in now.

His written AG opinions have been very to the point and favorable to gun owners.

Imagine getting a socialist/anti in his position.

That will only happen if we let them. If Rob is going to move up (and he most likely will) a suitable replacement needs to be found and supported. If WE don't do that, they THEY will.

Might I suggest that the best office for Rob McKenna to occupy is NO OFFICE? While gun owners on this forum apparently haven't taken the time to research Rob McKenna's actions, the gun prohibitionists at Washington Ceasefire have.

Let's see what I read:
Further Restrictions to keep guns out of the hands of mentally unstable people? Yup, I guess I am okay with that.

Gun Show background checks: He recommends that agencies should look into an instant background check service that can be used at gun shows (for non-ffl people). Didn't say required anywhere. More of a CYA policy and stance. I can dig it...


Really? Not too anti-gun there.. More like let's try and find a medium that will appease all, keep the guns away from people who SHOULDN'T have guns and in some instances make purchasing a gun at certain venues a much more secure transaction...
