MAINE GOP WINS BOTH HOUSES OF LEGISLATURE

AUGUSTA- The Maine Republican Party has taken control of both houses of the state legislature.

In an historic repudiation of nearly four decades of Democrat policy, the latest returns show Republicans reaching 20 seats in the Senate and at least 76 seats in the House, establishing firm majority control of both bodies.

"The people of Maine has risen up and taken back control of their government," said Maine GOP Chair Charlie Webster. "We are humbled by the opportunity to finally lead our state into a new era of prosperity."

"We couldn't be more proud of the hundreds of volunteers and supporters that worked tirelessly to make this happen," said Maine GOP Executive Director Christie-Lee McNally. "This was truly a grassroots victory for the working people of Maine."

What a legacy to leave your children and grandchildren - great thing for Maine and the nation.

Nothing else, and I do meaning nothing, would spotlight your efforts more than getting solidly behind this. Organized campaigning: letter writing, face-to-face w/legislators, media interviews et al.

Also strengthen your preemption law and get permit/reciprocity details worked out for those that travel.

Your Right to Bear Arms

Paul supports the 2nd amendment–no exceptions. Article I, Section 16 of the Maine Constitution says it best:

“Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.”

While Paul is Governor, he will:

* Protect Mainers’ Gun Rights. Paul will veto any legislation that restricts Mainers’ constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

* Preserve Mainers’ Ability to Defend Themselves. Paul will re-evaluate all policies to ensure Mainers’ right to defend their families from danger in their homes will receive the legal protections they deserve.

November 4th, 2010: Election Results, City Council, Next Steps

In the aftermath of this year's elections Maine finds itself for the first time in 50 years with a Republican majority in both the House and Senate and a Republican governor. This is a situation which can be advantageous to the open-carry movement on many fronts.

From Paul LePage's campaign website:

Your Right to Bear Arms

Paul supports the 2nd amendment–no exceptions. Article I, Section 16 of the Maine Constitution says it best:

“Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.”

While Paul is Governor, he will:

Protect Mainers’ Gun Rights. Paul will veto any legislation that restricts Mainers’ constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

Preserve Mainers’ Ability to Defend Themselves. Paul will re-evaluate all policies to ensure Mainers’ right to defend their families from danger in their homes will receive the legal protections they deserve.

The current political climate in Maine makes it unlikely that there will be major challenges to gun rights in the next two years. This period represents a critical opportunity to expand protections and fight for the elimination of restrictive legislation already on the books.

Portland City Council

Daniel Skolnik, the chief advocate for the resolution to restrict firearms in public places (Resolve 3-10/11), is no longer a member of the Portland City Council. However, city council veteran Edward Suslovic, who is on the board of directors for Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence, has been elected to a seat on the council. MCAHV have been very active in supporting 3-10/11 and it is not unreasonable to expect continued support for this measure from within the council.

This resolution is on the agenda for the Monday, November 15th meeting at 7:00 PM and maximal participation is encouraged.

Thoughts? Improvements?

Regarding the portland gun ban legislation

Hi Paul,

With a Republican House, Senate and Governor, this is an exercise that is going nowhere.
