Because the phrase stuck from the gangster movies of the 30's, 40's & 50's. That and it takes so many more keystrokes to write "struck on various parts of his body by the alleged perpetrator who used the handgun as a club".

Geez. I thought it meant "overly willing to do things someone else want you to because you really like their pistol and you want to make sure your access is not cut off."

Why waste the time??? She should have used it herself, esp. since it was within her reach, not his.

She was just playing out the stereotype you see from the movies. BG is beating the stuffing outta the hero while his girlfriend puts her hands over her face and screams. When I see this on the TV, I'm usually yelling, "Pick up the shovel and hit him!!" She never does.
