I personally have no problem with EMS personel carrying firearms. It would be the departments decision and Im sure they would have to qualify in firearms similiar to what LEO's do, just because of the "public perception" of the matter. My father was a FF/Paramedic a large city in SW USA and he got shot at a couple of time while on "gang related" calls. He was there to save the guy, and the other gang wasnt to fond of that idea, so they shot the fire engine. Of course the Police were immediatly dispatched and "stage for PD" was enacted, but the FF's would have been better off if they had a defense mechanism till LEO's arrived.
