General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio. Please follow his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.

Nope. Never happened. This is 100% urban legend. "Cosgrove" is about the 3rd or 4th different name I've heard, for the general in question.

Gotta consider the source of all the drama, these out ragged anti gun people are the same MORONS that elected our current liberal MORON socialist president. It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so passionate about an issue yet be so totally ignorant about the issue at the same time. The guy seemed very polite & decent. What a shame.

I guarantee that some here on OCDO and OCDO-WI voted for Obummer, likely a fraction similar to the unemployed/under-employed looking for a stimulating handout.

Some urban legends are valuable lessons

Well geez, you're no fun. Actually, Major General Cosgrove is a real person and the story makes a great parable of how senseless some of the anti-gun arguments are. You can replace General Cosgrove with The Tooth Fairy and it will still be a good lesson.... :dude:

Uncle Buck and Grandma'

Jim Fendry is a long-time NRA mouthpiece. Amazing how quickly they can respond to a local situation when they want to. Jim is the perfect one to confront the parents since he sorta' looks like your wise Uncle Buck. The only better person would have been a little old white-haired lady wearing an apron with a dab of flour on her nose....

Tried posting this, but it won't let me:

I would like to know what the difference is between people carrying a firearm and having a sporting goods store near a school. Law abiding people carry everywhere in this state and every other state in the US. You do not hear about "blood in the streets" or "children being targets of law abiding citizens."

Thanks for posting the truth. I would'a been deleted for saying so. I will go on and extrapolate from this appearance to the appearance of the spokesperson for concealed carry in Wisconsin. Appearances are deceiving, hence the warning, often repeated here, against judging so. Judge on actions, not words and empty promises.

Yup. And the neat thing about buying ammo in that store is that they unlock the glass case, hand you the box, and you plunk it down on the conveyor along with the meat and potatoes. Compare that to Fleet Farm.

Why, how does Fleet Farm handle it? Fill out background check forms before purchase and get a Secret Service escort all the way home? ;)

There is no Fleet Farm around here, but at Farm & Fleet you just walk up to the open shelf (no attendants in sight! :D), put it in your cart, and toss it on the checkout counter along with your Carhartts, spark plugs, candy, and kids toys! Can't beat that setup.

Long rifle and .22 ammo is available to anyone and you have to show your ID when you check out. Pistol ammo, however is a process. First find someone that's working behind the counter to get the ammo, then show him ID for over 21. He then fills out some ******** form saying you bought x boxes of x ammo, staples it in a plastic bag with that has a large red stamp on it saying either "WARNING" or "NOT FOR PEOPLE UNDER 21", (I can't remember off hand exactly), and then you check it out where you have to show your ID again.

I've actually had the checkout person ask me for my ID twice when checking out shotgun shells and pistol shells. Once to see if I was 18, and then once to see if I was 21. Apparently math isn't a prerequisite for the job...

in your pants
The Jefferson Super-Walmart has the shotgun ammo on the shelf, and possibly the .22LR ammo as well, but all the pistol and higher powered rifle ammo is in a locked glass cabinet.

There's no special paperwork or ID showing required to buy it, though, you just have to track down someone to get it for you.

The Madison Super-Walmart is the same way, I think, but I'm not positive since it's been a while since I picked up any ammo from that location.

You're right, I forgot the part about showing ID to buy ammo at F&F - but I never get carded for it anymore, at least in Sturtevant. I guess once you look a couple decades over 21, they don't bother! :D That's OK by me.

Except so many "pistol" calibers can be used in rifles. My level action uses 38/357, the KRISS Super V uses 45ACP. Then you have "rifle" rounds being used in pistols, like the AR-15 pistol or the FN Five Seven. People never THINK about these things. Further more, what does it matter if someone is 17 or 77? There are plenty of older folks who I would rather stay away from, and many 10, and even younger, whom I would trust with my life.
