Obama Could Appoint Traver ATF Chief Without Senate Approval
There are indications that President Obama may exploit his power to appoint Andrew Traver to the top post at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives without Senate approval. Traver has solid anti-gun credentials, so solid in fact that the Brady Campaign is applauding the selection.
Such a recess appointment would insure that a man clearly hostile to your rights as gun owners would be at the helm of the most powerful agency where guns are concerned for most of 2011. In short, the fox would become the head chicken farmer.
BUT WHAT CAN WE DO?
Glad you asked. You can insist that your US Senators pressure the President to not use this underhanded tactic. Andrew Traver would be bad for freedom and so is such a sneaky maneuver.
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED
Dear Senator:
Rumors abound that President Obama will likely recess appoint Andrew Traver to the post of Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Anyone as clearly hostile to the Second Amendment as Traver should be fully vetted by the US Senate before being allowed that degree of power.
I urge you to insist that the President not use such tactics to usurp the power vested in you as US Senators. Tell President Obama that this is simply unacceptable.
