Baltimore City PD office threatens grandmother with his gun for not paying attention

An off-duty BPD officer, while walking through a gas station, pulled out his gun and threatened a grandmother and her granddaughter because the grandma didn't see him, and backed her car a little too close to him, while he was on foot.

Gee, I wonder why police don't act this way in states like VA, PA, WV, or NC, were 10% of the population is licensed to carry concealed, and OC is legal? Maybe because they aren't control-freak thugs who know the population is completely disarmed against their sociopathic predations (like in MD).

Might want to leave PA out of that list. I had a few run ins with some extremely ignorant Pittsburgh Officers. And a few of us who OC in or around the Pittsburgh area know of the authoritarian attitudes of the PPD.
But in the rural areas of PA, the officers seem a little more professional.

But as a person who have lived in both Pittsburgh and Baltimore *and many other cities in the US), I can honestly say that Pittsburgh and Baltimore police have A LOT in common.

The press is forecasting that tomorrow's Board of Estimates (in Baltimore) hearings will result in Baltimore PD paying out TWO MORE settlements for a total of $270,000 because of police misconduct.

One for a traffic stop that resulted in an illegal search, a forced strip search and brutality on a passenger.

And a second where an LEO driving his cruiser failed to yield and struck a motorcyclist, who was permanently disabled from the crash.

From the article:
Between mid-2007 and mid-2010, the city has spent more than $10 million to settle police misconduct and related cases.

Way to go, BPD--thanks for taking a big dump on BOTH the Constitution AND the taxpayers of Maryland...

And to put sprinkles on top of this already putrid cupcake of corruption that is BPD, a 22 year old mother was killed and her infant was injured when a crackhead suspect drove his car into theirs while fleeing BPD in a high-speed chase, in DIRECT VIOLATION of the department's "no pursuit" policy. I guess BPD figured capturing a crackhead was more important the the public safety, and was worth the risk of killing a young mother and injuring her baby.

Because crackheads are soooo hard to find in Baltimore, and are soooo difficult to apprehend that they just couldn't let this one get away...

Off-Duty MoCo officer commits suicide during DUI stop...

An off-duty Motgomery County LEO, Jed Bylsma, was pulled over in Talbot Co. by MD State Troopers because he was speeding and driving erratically. He sped off during the stop, and was chased. MSP finally diabled his vehicle with "stop sticks" and he pulled over again. When the officers approached is vehicle th esecond time, they found him dead, with a gunshot wound to the head, and his gun in the center console. The official reports has ruled it a "suicide"...

BTW, Officer Bylsam may have been a MoCo LEO, but he lived in Gettysburg, Pa.

And according to MoCo PD, he had been suspended for close to a year and had been on administrative leave for reasons they did no disclose to the press.

But apparently it was OK for him to stlll be carrying in MD, and since he's a cop, they'll give him a pass on the fact that he was carrying while intoxicated...

Just the sort of stable, level-headed, on-top-of-their-game individuals we want carrying in MD, and being in control of which citizens do and do not get to exercise the "privilege" of lawful carry...

Good point, Dreamer. Devastating criticism. Well done. I wonder how PA felt about his carry?

For new readers, even suspended cops have a right to defend themselves. So, the point isn't that he carried, but the hypocrisy of the police not denying him his right while making it very, very hard for average citizens to get a carry permit.

Mt. Rainier officer involved in shooting, sex offense sentenced to 10 years

You just can't make this stuff up--LEOs get weirder and more violent every day in MD...

According to prosecutors, (Officer) Gillette lured a young man who he met at a gas station back to his home by saying he needed a male actor for a pornographic movie he was making.

Once there, prosecutors said, Gillette made sexual advances on the man, who family members identified Wednesday John Hall.

Hall tried to flee in Gillette’s truck, prosecutors said, and Gillette opened fire on him. He survived the attack, but he “still lives with three bullets in his body,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said.

Baltimore PD Detective suspended over raids for missing daughter

They just get weirder and more lawless, weirder and more lawless in The PRM...

Sources identified the detective as Daniel Nicholson, who has been a member of the department for 17 years, 11 News I-Team lead investigative reporter Jayne Miller said.

Miller reported that Nicholson allegedly used his police powers to raid homes in the Northeast District of Baltimore searching for his daughter, even though the case was being investigated by Baltimore County police.

While Im not condoning any LEO breaking the law, my heart goes out to him and I cant even imagine what lengths I would go to to find a missing child of mine. And hell, Im not even a father yet.

I know the N.E. district of Baltimore well, and its no Severna Park or Annapolis.
NE Baltimore is rough as hell.

Maryland Police Officer Arrested on Marijuana Charges

You just can't make up stories this rich...

Corporal Rick Alexander, a 14 year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police was arrested by fellow officers Friday, after allegedly warning drug suspects that a search warrant was going to be executed for their residence.

http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/02/cpl-rick-alexander-anne-arundel-county-police-officer-charged-in-narcotics-bust-72231.html

Actually, this is one of the ONLY cases where I actually APPLAUD and LEO for breaking the law, but the law IS the law, and he is supposed to be sworn to uphold it, NOT be an accessory to felonious activity...

Ex-chief of Baltimore city prosecutor's gun unit charged with gun possession

"The former chief of the Baltimore State's Attorney's office's gun unit was arrested over the weekend and charged with a handgun violation, records show.
Matthew Fraling, 49, who spent 23 years as a city prosecutor and oversaw prosecutions of gun offenders for his final two years, was pulled over on Friday night at about 11:45 p.m. in the 2500 block of Guilford Ave. after an officer in an unmarked vehicle began following him.

The officer, Det. Kenneth Ramberg, wrote in charging documents that Fraling was pulled over after he crossed the center line, and he initially told the officer he did not have any weapons on him or in the vehicle. Ramberg asked Fraling to step out of the vehicle and again asked if there were any guns, and Fraling said he had one in the vehicle's center console for which he did not have a permit to carry. "

Either the States Attorney made the biggest mistake of his life, or the cop made some "errors of memory" while writing his charging doc.

Im guessing latter.

(chuckle) A prosecutor who forgot the 5th Amendment?

Baltimore Detective shoots self--claims he was attacked--charged with perjury...

A Baltimore City police homicide detective has been charged with perjury Wednesday regarding an incident in January 2011, according to court documents.

Detective Anthony N. Fata faces four criminal charges, including misconduct and lying to get workers' compensation benefits.

Fata claims he was attacked while getting something from his car. At the time, police reported Fata wrestled with the assailant, described only as a black man, and was shot and wounded before the assailant fled.
