Pretty typical texting grammar....... Poor girl was only 19 years old. I'm sure she isn't the only girl he was ever inappropriate with.

Shortly after my stepdaughters moved back to MD (in the lat 1990s), one of them was driving home from work late, and was pulled over by a PG county cop because supposedly her car had a burned out tail light.

When they ran her DL (which was a CA DL), they found a person with a similar name (spelled with C instead of a K in the first name, and spelled with an O instead of an E) in their data base who had outstanding warrants. This "suspect" was, to their minds, a "probable cause" match for my stepdaughter.

My stepdaughter is about 5"0", white, with straight black hair, very slim, and drives a VW Golf and had been living in CA for the last 2 years at the time.

The "wanted" person was a life-long resident of MD, was black, and drove a Toyota.

They forced her out of the car, performed a complete search, shouted at her for not having a MD DL (even though she had only been in MD for two weeks) and berated her because her vehicle was registered in her mothers name, which obviously wasn't the same name on her DL. They refused to let her use her cell phone. They searched her purse and book bag. All this happened on the side of a secluded road in MD late at night, with little traffic, and no witnesses.

Needless to say, she was terrified.

Luckily, they let her go with a "warning". And mysteriously, the tail light came right back on when she went to look after they let her go...

PG County has been out of control for nearly 3 decades. They are one of the most corrupt, criminal-filled governments in MD, and that's saying a lot. The PG County police (not the Sheriff's Department) has one of the WORST civil rights violation records in the nation, and has paid out MILLIONS of dollars in civil rights judgments in the last 30 years. At one point in the 1990's, they were actually under Federal Supervision, because of the egregious corruption, malfeasance, and misconduct...

The system in MD is so befouled and contaminated with corruption that "fixing" it has become functionally impossible. Short of firing EVERYONE, and starting over, only hiring people with clean records, there is no way to make MD government clean. And even that might not work, because sometimes, they even falsify background checks for their buddies, and KNOWINGLY hire criminals...

46 Prince George's County officers suspended or on administrative duty

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/28/AR2010112803410.html

Please avoid LEO bashing as a result of these reports - speak to the specifics , not perceived negative generalities of LEOs.

Grape, you've made my weekend... :D

I can't wait for the next time I get to testify in the MD GA in support of the newMD CC bill next session. This news story will be a prominent part of my testimony, in rebuttal to the assertion by MSP that "only MD police are trustworthy enough to carry in MD"...

Mark my words, folks, by the time these Federal investigations are over, the number of PG County LEOs and County Employees implicated will reach into the 3-digit figures....

Information de jour - my pleasure.

Don't forget the FBI stats that demonstrate that permit holders are involved fewer violent crimes than LEOs - expressed as percentage of each group.........and we shoot better defensively. :D

Thanks for those GREAT links...

If I would have had these resources in January, when I testified for HB-52, I probably would have received as standing ovation from the crowd of supporters--as I was being escorted out of the room by a tag-team of irate, indignant, and embarrassed MSP troopers and MSI execs.

I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to the 2011 MD GA session... :monkey

Apparently, even their own Chief knows the whole system is rancid:

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/white-plains-ny/T3UK3CBO97SV2O92M

Prince George's County's Police Chief Roberto Hylton said, "I am appalled at the disgraceful and rather disgusting conduct demonstrated by these officers, who tarnished our badge for their own greed and personal gain. We applaud the rather good U.S. Attorneys and the FBI for their efforts to clean our departments and courthouses from the outside, while we continue to clean from the inside because the majority of the cops and judges are rather corrupt and dirty."

Wow...

The Chief of Police in PG County is a "cop-basher"...

Better not let HIM join the forum...

And how does the new incoming County Executive, Rushern L. Baker III , reward Chief Hylton for his strong efforts to rid PGCPD of corruption?

He's being replaced...

http://www.gazette.net/stories/12032010/prinnew83732_32553.php

At the meeting, Luis Rodriguez, executive director of the Hispanic National Law Enforcement Association, said Hylton is being targeted because of his tough stance on police misconduct and that if he is removed it will send a message to police officers that they can get away with inappropriate activities.
No good deed goes unpunished.

Especially in Maryland...

It's amazing the Chief actually said that.

Upon reading the article, it looks like he was trying to clean up the department, maybe he asked the Feds to investigate his dept.

Apparently, it's the same in Baltimore. The ex Chief of Baltimore City Police Department Internal Disciplinary System feels the same about that organization too...

She'd better not sign on to any MD-related gun forums. That sort of "cop-bashing" attitude will get you banned toot suite...

Well, it seems that a certain "gun rights" organization in MD shares a common opinion of the populace of MD with one local news organization: The Washington Post:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/19/AR2010121903021.html

Here's what's missing from those diagnoses: the staggering apathy of Prince George's County residents. The problem wasn't just that sleaze was tolerated but also that everyone knew about it, or could have known, and relatively few cared.

Birds of a feather....

And apparently, not even firemen are immune to the rampant graft and corruption in PG County...

Where does it end, MD?

What is it going to take for the People of Maryland to kick all the current crop of bums out and put some law-abiding citizens in office? When are Marylanders going to reclaim their State's moniker of the "Free State", and INSIST that their public officials conduct themselves in a law-abiding, ethical manner, and restore the Fundamental Human Rights of the people?

They've already blown their most recent opportunity to "clean house" in the mid-term elections. Unlike nearly EVERY other state in the Union, MD pretty much re-elected the same old bunch of greedy, corrupt, power-hungry sociopaths back into office for another term. Perhaps Ben Franklin WAS right, and a People Do get the government they deserve.

By the time the next elections come around, there will be checkpoints on the borders, and barbed wire around the perimeter of the entire state, I'll wager. And the barbed wire on the fences WON'T be to keep people out of the state--it will be angled inward...

Think of the future, Maryland. Think of your children. And TAKE CONTROL of your state. Maryland is past the point of being a "bad joke", and is now becoming a National Embarrassment, even worse than IL, NY, NJ or CA...
