I am now living in Commiefornia. i will be moving to the great Kentucky commonwealth next March to finally live in a FREE state! I can't wait!!!

Well, I have a lot of ammo. The movers won't move it. they call it "explosives." If I load it all into the car, I'll be carrying about 400 pounds of it!

So ... I am thinking of selling the ammo here to my 2A friendly associates, and purchasing new ammo again in Kentucky.

Here in this cesspool of Socialism, there is a lot of talk about how difficult it will be to GET ammo after another month or two. Is that JUST a Commiefornia thing, or will I have difficulty buying ammo in Kentucky as well? I'll sell it here IF I can easily replace it there.

Though this info is slightly dated, about 7 months old. I had inquired of my favourite gun shop about not only the ammo but weapons availability due to all the hype that's been flying over the past couple of years. According to them, there shpuld not be any issues with getting ammo,. now that ammo manufactures are catching up with demand. There was a period there when is was as if certain grades of ammo had dropped off the face of the planet, mainly 9mm, 40 cal, 45. But now that the manufactures are catching up with that unexpected demand now, you should no problems getting what you need here. :)

The same was true of firearms, especially the so-called "Evil Black Rifles". *LOL* From word around, some of those makers might still be running a bit behind.

I called Bud's Gun Shop. Someone told me that if I purchase ammo in Kentucky after January 2011, it will be "a lot more expensive and have a huge tax applied to it." So I am considering transporting it in our car or truck. Your thoughts?

Load it on the truck and bring it with you, saves a big hassle of re-stocking and gives you the peace of mind that you are ahead of the game!

What part of Kentucky are you moving to? You could probably ship it to yourself at one of our addresses and pick it up when you get here. I bet someone would help you out. If you are heading to the Eastern part, I will.

Yeah, I thought about shipping it, but 400 pounds?!? I guess I'll just pack it into the personal vehicle, evenly distributed.

Just make sure those firearms are unloaded and in a locked container outside of the passenger compartment. The locked container can be inside the vehicle if an exterior one is not available.

Flat rate shipping? Most any hauling service will ship it for you. Holand, Miland, ect... You just have to disclose whats in the box so they can lable the out side of the truck correcly. Ship it to some one here, and one of us will store it till you get here. I have a save, but not THAT big... :) However, I'm sure me or some one else on here could indeed find a place to store it for you. Renting a small storage building is very cheap. Just tossing out some ideas. Always happy to help a fellow weapon owner!
Unless you have a truck totally full, I agree with Jefferson, I'd load it right in the truck.

don't ask, don't tell

You could also pack a box of ammo (50 rounds erso) in each of a wide assortment of boxes of household goods.
Lots of things naturally rattle or are heavy - kitchen supplies, tools, books...
Even putting one box of ammo in a box of sweaters or towels wouldn't raise the weight to an unusual level.

Distribute the weight, and if by some odd reason one of the moving people gets into the box and sees the ammo your reaction can be "oops! someone helping us must have packed that one by mistake."

Not that I'm sneaky or anything. :) (where's that "whistling innocently" smiley I've been asking for?)
"Explosives" are things that can go boom with little provocation, things that are dangerous on their own. We all know that ammo doesn't and isn't.

And take some of it with you & your guns in the car, too, so you know where it is when you get to your new place.
Ditto for all your important paperwork, medicines, cell phone chargers, & a roll of TP.

So what new tax starts in Jan 2011? I haven't heard of a new tax.

Actually, they said that the price of ammo would go "way up" after February of 2011.

If I bring my truck with me, I'll put the ammo into the passenger's side under-bed tool box and carry the weapons in the driver's side box. They both lock, and are strong enough to handle the weight. I am HOPING to sell my business here though, and that would mean the truck would also be sold.

Ah well, time will tell. if the biz sells, I'll work out the ammo situation then. Shipping is a good idea, as I can ship it to the home we already purchased and have the current residents(former owners) stuff it into the garage awaiting our arrival. Of course, that is problematic, because they may move out a month or so before we move in, and that would mean lots of ammo in an empty house! NOT a good idea.

I'm so excited though! w should be arriving in Kentucky around the last week in March.
