Wow. I did not know all that happened in Australia just because of a ban on fire-arms. I can see why now though. One thing I don't understand is if the crime rates were shooting up so drastically after their newly instated law back fired on them you would think that they would just abolish it. Or could they not face the public with such a weak move?

Hi Daylen.

Those of us who are conserned are doing all we can in telling others interested world wide where possible, in whats happened here down under since the firearms ban, by spreading the true facts via sites like this one. For example, even though I was once chastized by a member here regarding my frequent posts in the thread, "Who needs a gun in Australia," which I started, I continued to post, only to try and let people know that the firearms ban down under DID NOT STOP FIREARMS RELATED CRIME, and never will, in fact they increased. What our government has ignored is the fact that criminals never handed in any firearms and never will.

The criminals down under have been cheering since the gun ban. They have in fact been fully enabled, knowing most victims will not be shooting back. Criminals now freely invade homes, they steal and then rape women and young girls before they leave, they steal anything and everything they can get their hands on, they have even resorted to bashing the vulnerable elderly people for their meger posessions to feed their drug habits. Why risk robbing a bank when one only has to bash to old gieser down the road, steal his money and plasma screen? They car-jack ignoring babies strapped in their safety seats only to dump them off in the next town! Since the firearms ban they get away with and do what ever they like.
They know full well that self defence with a weapon of any knid has been declared and legislated in parliment as illegal.

We who are conserned write to govenrment ministers, send e-mails, ring talk back shows when the anties who are pandered to by vote grubbing low life pollies try and promote their anti gun adgendas. They never let the truth get in the way of a good story which will sell papers!!

I think the momentum against the gun ban, although late, is ever so slowly growing. People are starting to realise that they are not being protected, nor are they safer since the enforced gun ban-buy-back. Sadly, sections of our government is still promoting a safer Australia since the firearms ban, bending to the leftist Greens and the anties, but the statistics are slowly proving them wrong. Maybe one day, I hope I live long enough to see it, the right to bear arms will be reinstated down under. Thanks for your question. Haz.

I don't know if you have in your Constitution, the right to keep and bear arms.
But the ones who would put you in jail, and are enforcing these laws, need to but put out of their jobs.
One way might be is if the people of a village, might hire a citizens militia, a group of their own "Police Protection".
Who would be armed at all times. The hiring, could be 1 dollar a year per man making it legal.

Now the politicos might not like it, but it "We the people" who are the rightful authority, and we demand protection.
Besides these new law officers (citizen militia) are voted on by we the people and hired.
Or a volunteer police force, might be better and all could be part of it ( Gun Owners).

Here in America, the chief law enforcer is the county Sheriff, and he is the boss !
He can say not in my county !
Who would take your guns if you had a good sheriff ? He don't have to enforce bad laws. Even in America
but to many are politically inclined even in America, and that's why we are having a hard time with the laws here.
Using the "Law Enforcers " against the people for political agendas. (Think "UN mandates").
Its worked that way in every un-free county to date.
At some point there has to be resistance to Tyranny !

Just perhaps, if the citizens of Port Arthur - or a decent number of them - had been armed and prepared that day, this criminal would have been stopped quickly.

Each person is individually responsible for their own life and safety, and that of their dependents. The real tragedy here is that the people trusted to their government to protect them, and in the end they allowed that error to disarm them pretty completely.

It's no good going on about how the cops didn't do anything, or the mental health people made mistakes... all that and more will happen rather oftener than not. But it won't make so much difference if people take care of themselves first and foremost.

As it is right now, unfortunately, if Australia continues to go this way, it is no one's fault but the people who keep electing these leftists to power. The same can be said for America.

However, I have stated elsewhere that the one-worlders are out to take control of every nation in the world. They cannot do this as long as the people are armed. So, disarming citizens becomes one item among a few other things placed at the top of the list of things to do.

I give no more than 10 years that every nation, including America, will have laws making ownership of "all" guns illegal with heavy penalties. I may be off a few years, but it is coming just as sure as I am breathing. If this president ends up at the wrong end of a fired weapon and dies, you can be sure that this will kick off the biggest gun grab this nation could have ever envision a few years back. Look at what has happened to our freedoms in your lifetimes. We are not the America I was born in. We are probably not the America you were born in.

Haz, thanks for the warning. I always wanted to live in Australia, but in the past few years I have changed my mind. First, I don't want to live in a socialist country. And, I don't want to live in a country that believes in stealing my rights with the lame duck excuses they use. Notwithstanding, America has become just that.

Enjoy your firearms, Mates, sooner or later they ARE coming for them.

So Haz what are you doing to get your rights back in Australia. Letting the rest of us know the evil that was done to you is noble and will help us in the US, but I don't see how it will help Australia. Or are you hoping we keep our guns and get lower crime rates than the rest of the developed world and our guns can be pointed to as the solution?

Haz,

I appreciate that you are sharing your country's plight with us, I have been in a debate lasting several months with a local anti-gun group. I have used Australia as a cite to show what happens if the law-abiding are disarmed as this group wishes to accomplish.

If you would like to read my writings, they can be seen here > http://www.facebook.com/BadBonesBBQ#!/pages/Wisconsin-Anti-Violence-Effort/273516596235 Click on the tab labeled "Discussions" and the on the link "Guns in Public"
I do not know if you are required to be a registered member of "Facebook" to read the 7 pages (with many posts deleted by their admins) of dialogue.

This group states publicly that they are just "Anti-Violence" but when it comes down to their actions, they are clearly "Anti-Gun ownership"

Thank you again for your posting

Haz, here is a quote from one of our contry's founding fathers that you of all people could truly appreciate.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." - Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria, Criminologist in 1764. That was 230 years ago. -Thomas Jefferson

When do you think the citizens of Australia will say enough is enough? Do you feel a revolution will happen in our lifetime down there. It seems to me that it is long overdue.

I do not know what would happen here if the Govt. tried to confiscate guns, I have a feeling it would get very very ugly and many lives would be lost. Sure, like the UK, some would go along with the order, but with our constitution on our side, I would hope enough people fight back.
See, Our founding fathers realized a need for the citizens to keep and bear arms, not only to help defend the country against foreign invaders, but also for the people to be able to overthrow a government that may turn tyrannical. I doubt we would have a chance if the armed services followed illegal orders, hopefully many of them would refuse to do so.

That is why the org "The Oath Keepers" has come about,

How deep is the hatred of Americans and American ideals in Australia?

I know very little about you country/continent except for what I learned from a few Australians that I have got to spend some time with while they were vacationing here

I did get the impression from the people I knew was that Australian people are a very leftist leaning society, and that they tend to think the government should provide for them. But this is only from the 5 or 6 people I have known who were on vacation here.
One of them was very highly educated, and she was traveling with the Japanese World Cup ski team while working on her college thesis, So I am quite sure money was not a problem for her family. I met her at a Sushi bar in Breckenridge CO during the World Cup ski competition in the mid 90's. That was one of the weirdest nights that I can still remember. (there was lots of alcohol involved, and at high altitudes to boot)

If there are still some people left that do not hate/envy us, use this quote from one of our founding fathers.;

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.

I believe the actions of your government have proven Mr. Jefferson's words very clearly.

I didn't realise even our closest allies had large portions of their populations that hate us. I guess most of the world is just a bunch of haters.

Hi Daylen.

Its not that the average Australians hate Americans. The trouble over here is this. We are constantly being bombarded with every news item involving any gun related crime commited in the US by our news media who are anti gun advocates. Our own politicians whine on repeatedly, "We dont want to go down the American road having armed people roaming the streets."

They dont mention the fact that despite the fact that we are only a population of about 26 million compared to the USA, which I believe is about 307,065,550, we have more gun related crime over here, and guns have been banned!

What they dont rave on about is the fact that despite the fact that guns have been banned here, per capita, WE DO HAVE ARMED CRIMINALS roaming the streets, indescriminately shooting people, invading homes, robbing stors, car-napping, not to mention the gangs of drunken thugs taking over the streets at night.

Those, like myself that do make a noise over here are few and far between.
So when are you moving?

Sorry for jacking this thread Haz. However CenTex jacked a thread in the VA forum were a freind was charged with BS charges and ran once he was called out for it.

After you trolling on the VA forum I did some research on you. In this post you claim to be born in the US but on other post you say your not in this country so what country do you claim as your own? You post in the CA forum alot, yet you have a flag of Chile. ( the wrong might I add) like you live there yet again you post you live in the US. Just who the hell are you?

I agree. Some relatives of those killed at Port Arthur spoke up against the Howard Governments gun ban, They were silenced by the media. Haz.

First, create your own media. It doesn't take much, these days - a good blog will do. Other venues include starting your own free, independant newspaper, that's supported entirely by ads.

Here's ours. It's totally on the left, but you can get an idea of what works and why.

I was speaking with a friend of mine who has been involved with the US media since the mid-80s. He related that the initial stories of open carry here in the US were clearly intended to stir up public outcry against the practice in order to change laws and get OC banned. What they failed to realize is that this generation is Internet-savvy, fully capable of lookup up what our Constitution says, what the state and local laws say, and if they're unconstitutional, stiring up a veritable firestorm of attention as to how the state and local laws are failing the citizens.

Seriously - they didn't count on that. The result is that gun laws swung more towards the Constitution in recent years, and provided the pressure continues, they'll continue to swing towards the Constitution.

I think our Founding Fathers recognized this implicitely, which is why they enacted the First Amendment, freedom of speech and of the press, before they enacted the Second.

I would encourage you to dig through each and every firearms-related law on the books, beginning with your Constitution, to find any and all reasons why subsequent laws, those limiting or banning firearm ownership among law-abiding citizens, are illegal.

Then fight them tooth and nail on each and every one.
