Hi again. You might want to look here http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/ as well. They are a good group based in OH.
Right now I'm sixteen, and don't even own a handgun. However, i want to know some things.
When I turn eighteen, can i OC without a license? Can the gun be loaded and cocked?
I am having alot of trouble finding any information on this. And i don't want to call our local police dept just because they tend to give their own opinions instead of the actual law, or so i hear.
Anyways, all the information you can give me would be greatly appreciated
The problem is: if you are a resident of OH when you turn 18, you will not lawfully be able to receive a handgun to carry until you are 21 (or move out of Ohio).
See these statutes:
Also, if you are transporting a firearm in a vehicle, without a license, the magazines for that firearm cannot have any ammo loaded in them, regardless of whether those magazines are inserted in the gun or not; otherwise the gun is considered loaded:
(5)”Unloaded” means any of the following:
(a) No ammunition is in the firearm in question, and no ammunition is loaded into a magazine or speed loader that may be used with the firearm in question and that is located anywhere within the vehicle in question, without regard to where ammunition otherwise is located within the vehicle in question. For the purposes of division (K)(5)(a) of this section, ammunition held in stripper-clips or in en-bloc clips is not considered ammunition that is loaded into a magazine or speed loader.
(b) With respect to a firearm employing a percussion cap, flintlock, or other obsolete ignition system, when the weapon is uncapped or when the priming charge is removed from the pan.
