One of the fiercest gun-control advocates in Congress, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), pounced on the shooting massacre in Tucson Sunday, promising to introduce legislation as soon as Monday.

McCarthy ran for Congress after her husband was gunned down and her son seriously injured in a shooting in 1993 on a Long Island commuter train.

“My staff is working on looking at the different legislation fixes that we might be able to do and we might be able to introduce as early as tomorrow,” McCarthy told POLITICO in a Sunday afternoon phone interview.

Gun control activists cried it was time to reform weapons laws in the United States, almost immediately after a gunman killed six and injured 14 more, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, in Arizona on Saturday.

Many said that people with a history of mental instability, like the alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, should not be able to buy a gun — and no one should be able to buy stockpiles of ammunition used by the 22-year-old assailant.

McCarthy said she plans to confer with House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to see “if we can work something through” in the coming week.

McCarthy’s bill will look to protect ordinary people, she said, but did not offer further details.

“Again, we need to look at how this is going to work, to protect people, certainly citizens, and we have to look at what I can pass,” she said. “I don’t want to give the NRA – excuse the pun – the ammunition to come at me either.”

Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, told CNN that he also plans to take legislative action. He will introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be seen as threatening or violent against a federal official, including a member of Congress.

I understand her concern, especially with her personal history. Now, if she would simply understand that the only gun control that might stand a chance of working is to melt every gun, even those from the police and military.

Never mind that a drug abuser with thinking disorder bought a gun... He lied on the form. Say it ain't so.

Carolyn Mc Carthy is a pathetic political hack that will not let any gun related tragedy go by without exploiting it to its fullest. She is an enemy of the second amendment and the private ownership of guns in general.

Her bill will have to make it through a committee controlled by republicans and no doubt some democrats that will remember the 1994 meltdown and takeover of both the houses by the republicans due to the Clinton AWB and the Brady Bill. It is unlikely that the vicious enemy of firearm ownership will be able to get her trash out of that particular committee. McCarthy had a much more difficult time winning re-election this past November. Her exploitation of a tragedy will only serve to galvanize the voters in her district to try just a little harder to unseat this disgrace that calls herself a U.S. Congress member.

Many other anti-gun politicians who will suck off this tragedy to push their agenda, but such action will only serve to strengthen the pro-gun activists and make their numbers grow. If any may recall, during the 8 years of Clinton, the NRA grew by over one and a half million members.

If she could wave a magic wand and -*poof*- make every gun on earth vanish, it would only last until the first hobbyist with a lathe could get out to his garage for a few hours.

The kids they added to their cast (who also "prove" or "disprove" so-called "myths") are even less believable. It's like getting your history lessons from BS/revisionist/PC Hollywood.

Feel the hate.

Considering that they do things out in the open, so that others can check their results, and attempt to repeat the experiments, and considering that they take viewer criticism and redo some of their experiments, taking into account recommended changes, sometimes changing their assessment as a result, I put a lot of stock in the experiments they do and the results they get.

Feel free not to give them any credibility. Your choice. But, I have provided rational support for why I do give them credibility. You have offered emotional and irrational insults. That isn't support for a rational conclusion.

Worse than that, she is an opportunistic ghoul, who has based her whole political career on the grisly display of bathing in the blood of her husband (who was murdered on the NY subway by Colin Ferguson). She is a deplorable, ghoulish bureaucrat, and she has parlayed a terrible tragedy into a lucrative political career.

Why the People of NY keep re-electing her is one of the grand mysteries of modern politics...

When pressed on gun control by an NBC news troll on Sunday, a Democrat Congress man stated that jobs was more important.

There aren't the votes to pass anything, in the House OR Senate. There aren't many Democrats saying to themselves, "You know, we didn't lose NEARLY enough seats in November!"

Gun control's not going anywhere.

It's very unlikely to find natually occuring saltpeter just lying around on the ground, though. The Chinese used to scrape the crystalline form off the inside walls of bat caves, but more recent preparations called for ferminting hay in a what was essentially a cesspool. In fact, that's probably how it was discovered. Back then it was also used for salt-cured meats.

I can't image the guy who first noticed the crystals lying there and said, "Hey - what's this stuff good for? Perhaps preserving food?"

Yuck.

But that process would take many months, so Kirk would have had to find a more naturally occuring form.
