Thread: Mug shot of Tucson shooter
Boy, that's one creepy looking guy. And the *&*$ is smiling for the camera.
This guy is either COMPLETELY crackers, or he's playing the "insanity plea" card VERY hard...
It is our cause to dispel the foggy thinking which avoids hard decisions in the delusion that a world of conflict will somehow mysteriously resolve itself into a world of harmony, if we just don't rock the boat or irritate the forces of aggression—and this is hogwash."
--Barry Goldwater, 1964
I don't think you can be considered sane and commit murder. But, that doesn't mean you can't understand the difference between 'right' and 'wrong'. Merely from the comments he's made, I think it can be deduced that even he understood that what he was about to do wasn't considered the norm.
too bad that was not his obituary photo.
-I come in peace, I didn't bring artillery. But I am pleading with you with tears in my eyes: If you screw with me, I'll kill you all.
-Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.
Marine General James Mattis,
He looks like a cop.

While many claim to support the right to keep and bear arms, precious few support the practice.
I kinda like the "Guilty, but insane plea" they can still get life in a high security insane asylum. That boy is out there way in left field. Should be strung up.
‘‘Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.’’ Thomas Jefferson
Was there no security detail? Was there no armed citizens? How did this guy do what he did, and not get shot himself?
This happening makes it that much harder... a lifelong friend of mine is now of the opinion that all Glocks are bad... never mind that I carry one. The fact that I don't have a 30 round mag for it doesn't matter... all should be banned.
Lets call it what it is, a nut fell through the cracks, and got away with an something terrible. Could the parents have done a better job? Could the collage he was asked to leave have reported the incident to someone? Would that have helped? So meny possible actions could have been taken, but it's all after the fact. But situations like this reinforce why I carry. Every day, every place I can.

The guy was a nut. There was nothing that could have been done to prevent this kind of thing from happening short of creating a police state. The downside of Liberty is that bad guys sometimes do their bad stuff. In a free society, sometimes proaction is not possible and reaction is all we have.
This just goes to show what happens to you when you take your tin foil hat off!
A guy I work with was recently in a class at Pima Community college with this lunatic. He said that the shooter is definitely not playing with a full deck.
This guy is definitly demented.
It's a real problem that we all face and must be ready
to deal with at all times. Sorry for the families of the dead
and the wounded. I am also sorry for having to waste untold
amount of public funds to defend, feed and house this criminal.
I wish one of us was there to take him out before he did
so much damage. If at least a few of the people around
the Congresswoman had a side arm... Just too bad.
What he looks like means nothing. What he has done is the issue.
His ex girlfriend thinks he is not a nut, that it is all an act even his actions in school and otherwise. She thinks all of this is premeditated. Of course she could be a nut she did date him. Hmmm.
I am not anti Cop I am just pro Citizen.
U.S. v. Minker, 350 US 179, at page 187
"Because of what appears to be a lawful command on the surface, many citizens, because
of their respect for what only appears to be a law, are cunningly coerced into waiving their
rights, due to ignorance." (Paraphrased)
The only sane person who would commit such an act is a statist of the highest order. Someone willing to sacrifice the lives others and their own rectitude to enhance the power of the state -- someone who would commit murder to advance a cause they felt worthwhile -- and the only cause this could reasonably be expected to advance is the statist one.
Personally, I'm inclined to suspect that he's just a nut. But nothing would surprise me these days.
