legislation that would ban high-capacity ammunition "clips"

Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg, a gun control advocate from the state of New Jersey, announced plans on Monday to introduce legislation that would ban high-capacity ammunition clips, like the one used in Saturday's attack.

"The only reason to have 33 bullets loaded in a handgun is to kill a lot of people very quickly. These high-capacity clips simply should not be on the market," Mr Lautenberg said.

In response to the AZ shooting.

I apologize if this has already been addressed. Anyone have any more information on this?

I dont see to many, even liberals getting behind this, its considered political suicide to do so. I am sure hope I am right.

That would limit you and me but not the criminal. Is two guns with 15 rnds each as good as 1 with 30?

Suzanna Hupp, in her testimony before Congress, pointed out that rules limiting mag sizes don't work. She related that the shooter in Luby's Cafeteria changed out empty mags in about a second.

If you can't change mags within 2 seconds, you're not practicing enough. It's a silly bill that will go nowhere. Since when is New Jersey an earthly paradise with their 30 round mag ban?

Jurisdictions with state-mandated magazine limits still on the books:

Maryland
California
Cook County, Illinois
Washington DC

How's that "gun control" thing working out for those paragons of peace and tranquility?

Add Denver, CO to that list.

This is just the beginning. You can bet that they will promptly follow this up with an attempt to ban all removable magazine fed and semiautomatic firearms (shotguns included).

And the PDR of MA, although in fairness, they have several exceptions to it--like a Class A CCW or owning "pre-ban" mags. Lautenberg is a Jew. I suggest he go to Israel and tell them they should have gun control. Anyone too stupid to know the difference between a magazine and a 'clip' should do us all a favor and keep his ******* mouth shut about things of which he knows nothing.

If the ban specified clips, would it affect magazines? Wouldn't that be an education moment for the gun grabbers if their new ban didn't affect the change they wanted.

Hyperbole from an insignificant socialist representing an equally insignificant state which does not recognize the US Constitution.

After the beating the Dems took in the election last year and losing control of the House, NO ONE is going near gun control. This is all political posturing so they look good for their anti-gun constituents and appear to be doing something about gun control. I am very much heartened by the Congressmen that said they would start carrying more often. Our society as a whole, not just our congress people, needs to tone down the hateful speech.

NJ has a 15 round magazine for use in a semi-automatic firearm.

If you have a machine gun, you can have a magazine of any size in NJ. Evan Nappen represented a client on this issue a few years ago. He owned a machine gun in NJ and was arrested for a 15+ round mag, even though the law only restricted semi-auto mags. Nappen got the charge thrown out of court.

Just an FYI. Maryland does not prohibit the possession of any magazine. They do have a useless law that says you can not "sell" a magazine in MD that holds over 20 rounds, but nothing is stopping anyone legally from buying out of state and bringing it into the state.

My standard Beretta 96 .40 cal magazine holds 11 (+1 in chamber). One of the Glock .40's (23?), carrried by local LE holds, I believe, 14. Same I believe with the standard XDM .40, 14 or 15.

In November of 2010, a prominent Dem pollster (Mark Penn) stated--on MSNBC--that "Obama needed a similar event" to Oklahoma City to reconnect with the people...

Oh, say can you see,
By the Glock's eerie light.
What so proudly they hailed
at the false flag's wild screaming.
And we won't even go into the disdain for Rep. Giffords that the current administration held--her centrist views, her pro-2A stance, her strong stance on border security--she was certainly no poster child for the current Administration...

And we won't go into Judge Roll's proclivities either--the fact that he was one of the most pro-2A Federal Judges on the bench, that he was a Bush appointee, or that he successfully challenged parts of the Brady Bill, which he got overturned by the SCOTUS...

Judging by these two politico's track records, if ANYONE wanted to assassinate them, it would be someone on the FAR LEFT...

I don't mean nothin' by that... I'm just sayin'...

"NRAMARINE", you are right, this whole event DOES have an odd aroma--and it smells a LOT like a false flag...
