Montana --(Ammoland.com)- Three more MSSA bills have been introduced and now have bill numbers:

HB 201, Allow employees to keep firearms in vehicle in workplace parking lot (Note: Don’t be surprised when this bill gets swapped out for a similar one that does a bit more. See LC0932)

HB 271, Harmonizing concealed weapon permit laws. Since 1991, a CWP has not been required to carry concealed in 99.4% of Montana, outside cities and towns. HB 271 will make the remaining 6/10ths of 1% like the rest. It changes the law so that anyone eligible to apply for a permit under current law can carry without a permit. So it applies to Montana resident non-criminal adults who’ve taken a firearms safety class.

HB 278, to clarify and specify the role of the Montana Home Guard. HB 278 will refurbish the laws relating to mission and formation of Home Guard units; organizing volunteers in Montana.

Coming soon, introduction of bills for:

•Wolf control
•Cure school system abuse of guns in schools rules
•Award attorney fees and costs for person found not guilty for self defense
•Encouraging production of smokeless powder, primers and brass in Montana
•Clarify when police may seize firearms and when firearms must be returned
HB 159, to prohibit FWP from regulating firearms or ammunition (lead ban) was amended extensively by the House FWP Committee and approved 12-8. The amendments did NO serious damage to the bill.

MSSA has asked the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee to schedule two days of public hearings on gun-related bills on next Wednesday and Thursday, February 2 and 3rd. We’ve bundled these bills to make it more economical for you to come to Helena to speak in favor of our bills.

Last item, we still need to get two of three senators to support Sheriffs First, SB 114, to get it out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Those three are Jim Shockley, Jim Peterson, or Cliff Larsen. Keep up the messages to those three.

Contact your state Representative to voice your support!

On Friday, February 4, House Bill 174 and House Bill 384 were passed out of the House Judiciary Committee by votes of 16-4 and 12-8, respectively. Both pieces of legislation are now headed to the House floor.

HB 174, sponsored by state Representative Krayton Kerns (R-Laurel), would repeal the existing law that prohibits the possession of suppressors by persons in the field or forest.

HB 384, also sponsored by Rep. Krayton Kerns, would exempt peace officers and Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) holders from “prohibited places.” This would allow those with a CWP to carry concealed in banks, restaurants and bars, and government buildings.

Three more pro-gun bills, House Bill 271, House Bill 355, and House Bill 368, are still awaiting action in the House Judiciary Committee.

HB 271, sponsored by Rep. Krayton Kerns, would allow persons eligible to apply for a CWP to carry concealed without a permit within city limits. Currently, no permit is needed to carry concealed outside of city limits.

HB 355, sponsored by state Representative Jerry O’Neil (R-Columbia Falls), would award attorney fees and costs for a person found not guilty for self-defense.

HB 368, sponsored by state Representative Wendy Warburton (R-Havre), would allow an employee to keep a lawfully-owned firearm inside a locked motor vehicle or locked in the trunk of a motor vehicle when the vehicle is parked at their place of employment, as long as the firearm is not in plain sight.

I just got an email that was telling me about HB-271. It's sponsored by the same representative that sponsored the HB-228 back in 2009. If this passes, we'll have Constitutional Carry here in Montana as well. This would be an awesome victory for Montanans and would be another 'Don't Tread On Me' warning to the Federal Government. They already love us gun-toters in Montana and this would make it even better.
Let's pray and call and urge our Legislators to help this bill pass. We can already carry concealed without a permit in over 90-percent of Montana, this will open up the rest of the state to those of us who choose to legally and lawfully carry a gun for our protection!!

Congradulations Montana, and Continue to Preserve Our Second Amendment Heritage.

Why is it the ones that matter more and have more bearing on us as Montanans don't make it past the door of the room they were written in?

Action time on HB271. The house took out the ridiculous proof add on, now its back to original format!

Did they change the bill where it said that you would have to have proof that you had the safety course on you. UMm that would suck too. it would be like having a permit on you

Yeah, you need to carry proof. :/

I didnt know that they had a pocket sized proof. Would proof be that you can hit your target as they are running away, Is that enough proof. Sarcasm of course

The part that requierd Proof is why it failed in the senate the first time. "It has been removed", and has passed third reading. We are just waiting for its next step. the bill on the site has not been updated since May.

The more people that send, the more likely he is to sign, even if you are from out of state. Every governor thinks he might run for President some day.

This bill could still be Vetoed! Its still on his Desk!

House Bill 159, which would limit the authority of the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP), as well as House Bill 271, a permitless carry bill, are both awaiting action by Governor Brian Schweitzer. The Governor has until this Thursday, May 12, to act on these bills. As long as HB 159 and HB 271 are not vetoed, they will become law.
