Sounds like Obama WILL make a statement about "hi-cap" Magazines

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110124...20110124180136

The Bloomberge And the mayor from boston have paraded victims of violent crime to try and get a response from the president sad things is, it will probably work.

Here's a good quote from the Boston Mayor:

"Every day, 34 Americans are murdered with guns -- and most of them are purchased or possessed illegally," Bloomberg said at City Hall, where he was also joined by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino."

Here's another from a distraught mother of a murdered son:

Another woman held up a picture of her dead son in his school graduation robes.
He was "murdered in front of my home by strangers in a chance encounter with a stolen gun," she said. "Something has got to change. Enough is enough."

IMO they make our argument Lawful gun owners DO NOT do these kinds of things. I feel bad for these people, they have had a tragedy visited on them. Not once but twice. The first time by the criminal who did the crime to the loved one. The second time by being used by the "system" in a very sad attempt at furthering an agenda of criminal empowerment.

I doubt Obama will make any public push for any specifc gun control. The father of the little girl that died came out from day one and said he hopes no gun control will result from her death. The man who helped pin down the shooter mentioned the same thing. But I think he will make some reference to both sides encouraging them to find a 'solution' without being specific.

Question is, will he try to ban them after becoming handgun salesman of the year? It was Obamas election that made me decide to buy my XD. I have always called it my "Obama gun".

No gun control push . In fact, I think the best quote of his address was, "We may have differences in policy, but we all believe in the rights enshrined in our Constitution."

No Public mention, however I did like the overall message that President Obama had. Unity is a good thing. And I am happy that he didn't let the obvious pressure push him to say something that wouldn't make anything better. What he did say was IMO the right thing, and some good things.

He's going to publicly move to the center, working his will in the shadows, until the elections, then he will move quickly to the left with a vengeance.

I agree, and if he is reelected we will see the soctus go to a liberal majority, where they can really implement their ideals.

It appears obama will "take on gun control at a different venue and later date."

In other words, he has bigger fish to fry.

All the conservatives feared that Obama would be for uber gun control- that all our guns would be taken away, etc... None of that happened. In fact, less happened under Obama as president than HW. In fact, as it was mentioned, I think he has done more for gun owners than any other president (I would love to see gun sales figures since he became president).

Gun control has not, nor do I believe it ever will be, a major priority for Obama as President. If he takes on the gun control issue, the Republicans will eat him alive. He's going to play right down the middle, show the people that he can work to unite both sides on issues that need to be addressed. Because he has no hope of winning a re-election if he takes a hard-line liberal approach.

Because the guy aint stupid. He saw our reaction to the threat of election. We as a nation spoke with our wallets selling record numbers of weapons. Don't forget the ammo shortage, Americans bought so much ammo so fast, that the manufacturers couldnt keep up with it, also raising the prices of brass and copper.

Or his plan is to keep putting anti-2A judges to the SC and then you don't have to worry about republicans. kagan and sonia are hardcore anti's, he knows what hes doing.

The Court still has a 2A majority.

it's 5-4 now, if obama gets reelected he will likely have 1-2 more appointments. by my math that would be 5-4 or 6-3 against.

Only because we're not the People's Republic of America and he's not Chairman Obama. All you have to do is look at his own past numerous statements in support of gun control to know that the only thing holding him back is that we have an actual democracy that will boot him out if necessary and courts that will actually strike down, most of the time, unconstitutional crap.

Guaranteed, if we were the Union of American Socialist Republics and he was comrade-in-chief, Obama would have no scruples in implementing his personal anti-gun ideology.

Oh, and also I'm libertarian--not conservative--and many non-conservatives also recognize and are alert to Obama's ever-present threat to the RKBA.

"Without firing a shot"

The Prez doesn't need to take an active role in our disarming, please take note of the dates.

April 12, 1952 -- John Foster Dulles, later to become Secretary of State, says in a speech to the American Bar Association in Louisville, Kentucky, that "treaty laws can override the Constitution." He says treaties can take power away from Congress and give them to the President. They can take powers from the States and give them to the Federal Government or to some international body and they can cut across the rights given to the people by their constitutional Bill of Rights. A Senate amendment, proposed by GOP Senator John Bricker, would have provided that no treaty could supersede the Constitution, but it fails to pass by one vote.

AND...

1954 -- Senator William Jenner said:

"Today the path to total dictatorship in the United States can be laid by strictly legal means, unseen and unheard by the Congress, the President, or the people... outwardly we have a Constitutional government. We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another form of government, a bureaucratic elite which believes our Constitution is outmoded and is sure that it is the winning side.... All the strange developments in the foreign policy agreements may be traced to this group who are going to make us over to suit their pleasure.... This political action group has its own local political support organizations, its own pressure groups, its own vested interests, its foothold within our government, and its own propaganda apparatus."

Not necessarily. It depends on who is stepping down.
