GRNC Alert 01-30-2011:
Remember to Mobilize Tuesday

SPECIAL NOTE: Contact Jeff Rau at this email address -- legislativeteam@grnc.org -- for instructions on how you may help with this project.

GRNC needs your help. It is time to mobilize to make good on our legislative gains in November. To do this takes both manpower (and womanpower) and funding - more on that later.

As the politicians congratulate one another on their victories while convening the new session of the General Assembly, it is time for you to make certain they know why you sent them.

GRNC is holding a Grass Roots Mobilization Day at the General Assembly Tuesday February 1 and we want you there. Legislative Director, Jeff Rau is assembling his team and he needs extra hands.

What do we need you to do, you ask? Read the instructions section for further details. Then be sure to email Jeff Rau to coordinate your assistance with him: legislativeteam@grnc.org

For this day, no experience is required. You see, it is imperative to let the new folks in the General Assembly know that they will be held accountable. Will you help send this message?

WE KNOW... THIS IS DURING THE WEEK!

Tuesday is a work day for most of you, but please ask yourself a question: Is your freedom worthy of taking a vacation day? Politicians count on your not paying attention so they can continue with business as usual. Will you allow this, or are you going to show up to put them on notice?

Remember, if you can help, be sure to email Jeff Rau at legislativeteam@grnc.org so he may instruct you on meeting place and plan on how to best use you on the team.

If you have further questions, please call Paul Valone at: 704-907-9206.

INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT AM I BEING ASKED TO DO?

* Meet at a designated point at the legislature in Raleigh at 8:30 AM wearing business or business casual clothing. (Directions will be provided.)
* Deliver a "Remember in November" guide, a position statement, a GRNC brochure, and a business card -- all provided by GRNC -- to selected legislators' offices.
* Stop in and visit your legislator (if you don't know who that is, we will direct you).

With 170 legislators -- many of them new -- we want to make a show of force, so we need lots of people. Again, no experience is required.

THE GUN BATTLE BEGINS IN A WEEK: ARE YOU READY?

In the Tucson tragedy, Barrack Obama has his excuse, and the battle for gun rights begins in a week.

Says the January 27 edition of Newsweek:

"Obama intentionally did not mention gun control in his State of the Union, but aides say that in the next two weeks the administration will unveil a campaign to get Congress to toughen existing laws."

Worse yet, some of the Republicans you just elected to Congress might roll over to exploitation of the Tucson tragedy. According to the January 26 edition of The Hill:

"Republicans to look at federal gun laws."

WHAT WE FACE

* Rep. Peter King wants to make you an accidental criminal by proposing a ridiculous ban on guns within 1,000 feet of elected officials;

* Rep. Carolyn McCarthy introduced a ban on magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds, without even the "grandfather" provisions of the expired "assault weapon" ban; and

* And perhaps most far-reaching, even Republicans are now looking expanding the computerized "National Instant Check System" (NICS) in ways that could prohibit thousands from owning guns!

GRNC NEEDS YOU!

Frankly, we threw everything we had at the election. GRNC produced and distributed 110,000 "Remember in November" voter guides, including 75,000 mailed directly to gun-owning voters. The GRNC Political Victory Fund pushed pro-gun candidates in 15 districts, including radio spots which took out anti-gun House Majority Leader Hugh Holliman. Thanks in part to GRNC's efforts-- your efforts -- a pro-gun majority captured both chambers of the General Assembly for the first time since 1892.

But those victories have depleted our reserves to dangerously low levels. And now we face the upcoming battle after being weakened by the last. We've readied an ambitious legislative agenda and expect success at the state level. But to get ready for federal gun control initiatives which loom ahead ...

... WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Whatever you have contributed before, whatever your membership level, I am asking you to give once again to Grass Roots North Carolina - the organization which makes a point of using your money to more effectively and efficiently defend your rights than any other group.

This need is urgent: GRNC's many successes hinge on leveraging its impact by mobilizing tens of thousands of gun owners using not only e-mail alerts, but radio spots, huge mailings and occasionally automated phone calls.

But leveraging our impact costs money - money that right now is in tight supply. If you know GRNC, you know we don't constantly ask for money like certain other groups. But I'm asking now:

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE IMMEDIATELY TO GRASS ROOTS NORTH CAROLINA!

To contribute, go to: http://grnc.org/join_grnc/contribute.htm

To join or upgrade your membership, go to: http://grnc.org/join_grnc/join_grnc.htm

Thanks to you, GRNC is more powerful than ever before. Not only do we impact federal elections, we coordinate with other state-level groups to leverage our impact on federal legislation. We can pass Castle Doctrine, concealed carry in parks and restaurants, and much more. We can defeat federal gun control initiatives by Obama and his minions.

But doing it means you must get involved. For our own part, I promise you that Grass Roots North Carolina will put your money to the most efficient, effective use possible in defending your rights.

Armatissimi e liberissimi,

F. Paul Valone
President, Grass Roots North Carolina

How did this turn out? Did anyone here attend? Would love to hear how it went. I had a shift I wasn't able to get out of, otherwise I would have been there.
