I cannot imagine how Bloomberg pulled this off without committing a crime. Fathoming how he could have done this without consulting a battalion of lawyers to ensure that he found a way to do it without running afoul of the law is equally daunting.

That being said, as much as this charge is being thrown around, that Bloomberg committed crimes, no one has yet clearly laid out a single specific act, naming dates, times, persons, and unlawful actions, and the specific sections of the code that the act violates (aka a charge and specification).

I really hope someone can. I'd like to see criminal charges brought. But, until someone does detail the crime, this is just so much message board hyperbole.

He used local (Az) PIs. The sale was not illegal. Just a question of whether the guns should have been sold because of a statement made by purchaser about probably not being able to pass a background check. It was a private sale, not from a FFL.

Unfortunately, this simple distinction is apparently beyond the mental acuity of most of America's news agencies. I'm not surprised, though, as it took a combined, concerted effort over nearly fifteen years for us to educated (most of) them on the difference between a semi-automatic weapon and an automatic weapon. We've just begun educating them on the difference between a clip and a magazine. That'll probably take ten years, at least. Distinguishing the difference between a private sale and one from an FFL'd dealer? I don't believe it's possible before 99942 Apophis' close approach in 2036.
