Howdy, I'm soon moving to ruidoso. I currently living in anchorage Alaska and open carry every day. I carry my USP .40 around town and the house and my super redhawk 480 in the woods. My big question is in Alaska u cannot purchase a handgun or handgun ammo until u r 21 but u can purchase privatly and open carry at 18. I am currently 19 and will be 20 when I arrive in nm. Can I oc?

Nvm didn't see the maps link at the top answer being 19 good to here! Is the age limit a federal thing for buying handgun and handgun ammo?

You May Open Carry at 19

In general, you may open carry at 19 in New Mexico. There are exceptions -- schools, universities, state parks, courts, any place alcohol is sold (which will include some gas stations). You should be familiar with the laws and this site is a great place to start. The purchase of handguns and handgun ammo is restricted to those 21 and over by federal law. (You can buy shotguns and rifles and related ammo at age 19, under federal law.)

Though this is an open carry site, you may wish to consider a concealed carry permit, once you turn 21. You can link (through the NM map) to handgunlawus.com for more info.

Welcome.
