In NM and AZ, open carrying is not a big deal.

I am in Texas usually once a year, but it's been about 11 years since I was in new Mexico. Back then I saw a lot of "No Guns" signs in restaurants, etc. and in NM they have the force of law.

OC'd at the Main Street Restaurant in Cedar Springs. I doubt that anybody noticed, which is fine by me.

Earlier in the day, I saw my 4th (local) OCer at a nearby gas station. He didn't notice me and I wasn't able to amble over to start up a conversation because I was pumping fuel. He left before I finished.

OC'd at Kroger like I do once or twice a week and a new security guard I had never seen there asked me what he would have to do to buy a pistol without a CPL and the rules for OC w/o a CPL so I handed him a MOC tr-fold. First one I have had reason to hand out in ages.

Also had a young guy at a liquor store counter ask me if I was going to war with my pistol and 1 spare mag. lol

Read the article "Winning the Battle and Losing the War" here:

http://media.miopencarry.org/publications/moc/newsletter/MOC-Newsletter-5.pdf

Nice article. Not sure I will change my stance but you make some compelling arguments so that at least if I had to go in one for some reason I wouldn't mind. Most of the places that have 'requested' no guns I didn't go too much before they made their request if truth be told.

OCing everywhere allowed by law as usual lately: Meijer, McDonalds, Target, Kroger, DSW, Cabela's, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes and just a few days ago at the Dundee Middle School for the orientation with my daughter who is going into 7th grade. A few looks at the school but, the most noteworthy thing was how HOT it was in there! Old building, no air conditioning. I remember those days!
As usual, no problems. Carry on.

A school that didn't pitch a fit???? Guess that Clio ruling has made the rounds.

Myself, I hit the Meijers and Little Ceasers on Gull Rd., a Speedway and the best doughnut place in the world SWEETWATERS! No cops there, oddly enough.

OC'd yesterday at Best Buy in Saginaw to buy a new computer to replace the one the got fried by a lightning strike. The fellow who waited on me and I had a long conversation about guns we end up buying just because they are interesting or have some cool factor.

OC'd today at....

Beacon & Bridge near Montrose for gas...

Taco Bell in Clio for lunch where a woman had her hands full riding herd on 3 small kids and was very grateful for the $5 I put forward for her, and the kid's, lunch. She told the two boys to thank that nice man for paying for their lunch. I was glad to see a mother instilling good manners in her youngsters.

Wal Mart in Clio for some milk and sundries. On my way out an old guy (well... older than me but maybe not by much) was having trouble getting the amigo scooter to work. It quit on him right in the middle of the most traveled lane in front of the store. I wandered over and helped him get it out of the way then helped carry his purchases to his car. Of course a conversation ensued when he inquired about my sidearm and I learned he carried a .45 in the Korean war.

o one peed themselves... no one ran away screaming... and aside from the interesting conversations no one much gave a crap about my sidearm. And that is exactly how things should be.

Open Carry 1st time

Open carried for the first time today at Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids Michigan. Hassled by security

"You cant open carry here"
me - "Why Not"
"It's private property"
Me - and
"you can't open carry, here is our mall rules"
Me - Here is my list of pistol free zones, mall is not listed and there are no signs posted.
"Come with us"

They escorted me to a LEO who supported them, said I had to leave or place my firearm in my vehicle.

Verdict on this? Aren't all physical buildings private property? What's the point of open carry if they have a sign (they claim, but I never saw). Don't they understand the people I am protecting myself against could give two ***** about a no firearms sign?

sign no longer matters once they say you can't OC there, refusing to leave would be trespassing

If asked to leave private property....leave. You wont win holding court on the street.

Go home a free person and proceed up the food chain.

Judging by the rest of his post, Scooter has a CPL. In that case, it doesn't matter one bit if they sell it or serve it. He's legal.

As a matter of fact, I OC'd at a Meijer today. Also at a McD's and a Menards. No issues to report.

Malls and other businesses are private property and the property owner gets to decide if he will not allow people who carry guns on/in his property just like you get to decide to not to allow people to hunt, walk, camp, park their cars, on your property.

It boils down to... their house (store, mall, gas station, whatever) their rules just like your house... your rules. And the law backs private property businesses up with trespass laws just like those trespass laws back you up on/in your private property.

Oh... and private property owners can not only not allow folks who open carry guns on/in their property they can not allow folks who carry guns period .... whether openly or concealed.

Again, their house ... their rules. And trespass laws back them up.

Do you have a CPL? These topics should have been covered in your class. Private property, liquor licenses, etc. If not, demand a refund. If you haven't taken a class, you need to stop carrying immediately before you get arrested.

That is correct, I do have a CPL.
Sorry for any confusion, don't want anyone to get jammed up.
Carry on!

OC'd today at:

In Chesaning...
Admiral gas station for gas

LaClair's Chevrolet for the first oil change on my new Sonic. Got to see a brand new Corvette Z06 with a price tag of a bit over ............ $107,000.

And in Clio....
Taco Bell where I paid $5 towards the lunch of a young couple. The guy just stood there transfixed for a moment. He later thanked me and said he was just stunned to have someone do that.

K Mart where I could not find any sleeve shirts in my size....

Wal Mart where I could not find any short sleeve shirts in my size.... well.... they did have a puky green one that I wouldn't wear to my own funeral.

The only comment came from one of the guys at LaClairs when he asked what was up with the gun... and when I said I always carry it he said the heard it was legal. Then he went back to work.

Other than that no one ran away screaming, no little kids got scared, no cops showed up, and no one appeared to care at all.

I must thank the media for covering open carry incidents hoping to stir up some sensational, exciting, and scary emotional response but actually ending up educating the populace of Michigan that open carry without a permit is legal. Good job media! We who open carry appreciate the help!

Today, stopped at Fanfare and then down to Scotts for some challenge coin cases. Grabbed some litter and cat food at Pet Supplies Plus, then hit up Wendys on Sprinkle. No issues, even at Wendys.

Had an older worker (owner?) at a liquor store tell me had just taken his CPL class and that it was illegal for me to OC in a liquor store even with a CPL. I told him I had the law in my back pocket if he would like to read it. He just said no, you are fine and turned his back to me. :banghead:
