Oc'ed for the first time in a long time. While standing on the side of a road helping a person find a parking lot (long story) some Vassar kid (passenger in the truck he was in) scream, "f*** you." Then seen my Beretta. Then smack the driver and screamed, "Oh my god, he's got a gun!" That old Chevy did a nice burn out in the opposite direction, lmfao...

Wow. That kid must not have learned much about manners, civility, and paying attention to your surroundings.

Lol on the burn out. :)

Had 2 encounters yesterday, one was a first for me: riding my bike to the dentist thru some one lane road construction a worker gave me a salute. Guess he thought I was military or a LEO. Later on my evening walk I had a guy in a passing tree service truck give me a thumbs up.

Got into a discussion about how no one needs a high powered rifle and all anyone needs is a hunting rifle as I got a haircut (while OCing of course) in Bob Roy's barbershop in Chesaning yesterday. My comments about how what a person needs is the same gun the terrorist or criminal is using to shoot at them and if someone were shooting at me with an AR15 that had a 30 round magazine I'd want an AR15 with a 30 round magazine to shoot back with were not received very well from one elderly gentleman.

Then the elderly gentleman opined that if someone were to break in the intruder would be the one to get the first shot off and I wouldn't stand a chance. The gentleman had no response to my reply that I wear my gun in my house all the time but the barber Jeff said he wanted me for his neighbor.

There was more gun talk but those were the highlights.

I think some of the attitudes about what gun anyone "needs" is a generational thing. The oldest generation grew up in a kinder and more gentle time where there really wasn't much in the way of threats on the home front as long as a person stayed out of the bad part of town and the term "terrorist" just wasn't even on the horizon so guns were used primarily for hunting... hence that attitude. But times have changed and a wise person changes in order to deal with the times they find themselves in.

Oh... and I got a good looking haircut too. Thanks Jeff.

A salute is a gesture or other action used to display respect. Accept it in the spirit intended. :)

Wait, "if you turn it off we can have another conversation..." I can only imagine how that conversation went. Oh boy...
Got to hand it to the mad moms, they know how to work the system. They had police escorts here. ;)

no, it was boring, i'm not sure why he wanted the camera off. he essentially said the same thing he said before the camera went off. and he said more of the same after the camera went back on. i thought for sure he was going to say something good, but he didn't.

I was on a long jog last night and a guy walking the other way exclaimed "right on man, hoorah, keep it up!" I said thanks, and kept going.

It had been quite some time since I'd had any comments about HGOC. I regret not bringing some of my business cards with me, because it seems he missed the political aspect of why I OC, and I really didn't feel like trying to explain it to him while sweaty, shirtless and panting.

I thought I would post because it's been a long time. I guess the "success" of Open Carry is that with no incidents happening to me, I just don't think to come here much anymore.

Openly carried yesterday while doing work around my house. Also, went into Standale and then Grandville to purchase some items. I didn't encounter any problems so I would say "uneventful, as it should be".

I Open Carry everyday weather allows and, as many have said before, It is ordinary and boring! I mean that in the best way possible. I OC at Meijer, WalMart, Lowes, Home Depot, various other stores and food establishments as well. Many people do not notice and the rest don't appear to care at all. There have only been a few times over the years that anything noteworthy has happened. Yesterday was a pleasant, noteworthy day. My wife, our pile of kids and I went to the local McDonalds for lunch and play time in the kids area. While in line ordering the young man serving kept eyeballing my firearm. When I finished ordering and moved to the side he quickly asked "Is that a 9mm?" I answered "yes it is". He seemed pretty happy with himself! I noticed the couple 2 spots in line behind me had noticed I was OCing also. The woman edged over to me and said "just so you know, I'm not nervous at all that you are armed. In fact I feel safer with you here." I said thank you and the man edged up then and said " I carry everyday, no matter what, good for you!" and gave the thumbs up. The place was busy and we were in the thick of people in the play area. We struck up conversation with 3 other tables as the kids played with one another. NOBODY was bothered. What a great day!
Thanks to the men and women who blazed the trail years ago, I think about those that stood before me and I'm truly grateful!

I think the hype we see on TV is a sham since my personal experiences in the real world certainly do not reflect all the anti gun rhetoric constantly polluting the airwaves. As examples:

Open carried today at:

Both Mid Valley Insurance and Meijers in Shields. No one much cared in Meijers but the insurance agent at Mid Valley had good things to say about my sidearm...

Then off to the Secretary of State in St. Charles where no one much cared...

And then off to the Independent Bank in Bridgeport where the teller told me about her guns...

Finally stopped at McDonalds in Frankenmuth where people talked among themselves while pointedly looking at me but the one thing that made my day was the super surprised and happy look on the face of the young lady who discovered I was paying for her lunch.

Just another day where my real life experiences tell me that people aren't as anti gun as the fear mongering liberals would like everyone to believe.

OC'd yesterday at Taco Bell and Wal Mart in Clio. Some folks noticed my sidearm and some even spoke with their companions prompting them to take a quick look yet aside from that none cared.

As it should be.

OC'd for the first time in quite awhile yesterday. Went to the Taco Bell and Dairy Queen in South Haven.

Taco Bell, the guy taking our order saw nothing, but the guy doing the drivethru turned around and said, "I'm getting ready to carry, too!" to which the guy taking our order said, "Huh?" The drive thru guy said, "He's carrying." We then talked about 3 gun shooting competitions and other topics. No Fear or screaming there.

Dairy Queen was much more crowded, but no one said any thing there.

Carry On!
