Had an older worker (owner?) at a liquor store tell me had just taken his CPL class and that it was illegal for me to OC in a liquor store even with a CPL. I told him I had the law in my back pocket if he would like to read it. He just said no, you are fine and turned his back to me. :banghead:

Once upon a time, the Fudds willing to throw the self defense bunch under the bus were the deer hunters who pulled their guns out of the closet on November 14 and put them away on November 30.

Now that self defense, (and thanks to the 1994 AWB, black rifles) are mainstream, the Fudds seem to be the half educated CPL holders, and worse yet, the NRA approved providers of CPL education.

Got pulled over the other day on my motorcycle by a black cop in an unmarked Ford. When he approached and asked for my license and insurance I told him I was carrying a firearm. It was open carry but my jacket might have been hiding it. It was on my right side and he was on my left. His response was "ok".

That was it.

Got a wreckless driving ticket and talked to him about motorcycles for a while. No issues

OC'd at my sons Rocket football game in Portage today. A couple hundred kids and parents, and the only negative reaction I got was from my ex's sister. She's got more screws loose than a Home Depot, so it was no big deal anyways.

classy u r, keep doing what u r doing then, as long as u can, or until u r splattered all over the road

p.s. this thread is for michigan open carry experiences, not KY CC experiences...
I have been riding for 23 years and track racing bikes for most of that time as well. No one was on the road with me at the time I got a ticket. Have you never gotten a speeding ticket?
What you suggested had nothing to do with my situation.

The forum title does not show in tapatalk. My bad.

Had a non-OC encounter the other day. I had to go to Windsor for work so no gun for me for the day. On the way home I stopped at the corner store that I go to several times per week. As I'm cashing out I comment to the guy that I felt a bit naked today. He said "Yeah, I was going to ask, noticed you didn't have it on today." Joked about the freedom-hating nature of foreign countries and he laughed. OCed as usual the next time I was in there.

Had a nice chat today while waiting to drop off some prescriptions. Dude behind me, after several minutes waiting, perks up and says "Oh, you can just open carry into a business?" I told him yeah and gave him the high-level view of the law (posted signage / getting trespassed) and some specifics about CPL open carry (basically unlimited except Fed Property, Post Office, Court, Jail, and Casino) vs non-CPL (no schools, churches, day-cares, any place with liquor license including Walmart / Meijer). He asked about getting into a car, so set him straight on that too, how CPL you can carry however you want, but without is a pain in the ass because you have to unload it into your trunk every time.

In the middle of the convo I got called up next, but after I was done I stuck around until he was also done and we finished up the chat. He thanked me for taking the time and giving him the lowdown. Was a really nice discussion.

did you tell him you can carry in a jail as long as you are not attempting to arm an inmate?

Just saw my 5th independent OCer at the Greenville Meijer's today while I was looking at hunting supplies. I still had my morning sweater on so was still concealing. He was walking away when I noticed and I didn't run into him again, otherwise I would have struck up a conversation.

Anyway, that reminded me that it was warm enough to take off the sweater, which I did and I have since been OCing the rest of the day.

No, we didn't get to that level of discussion. And I'm pretty sure I specifically said "the secure areas of a..." court and jail. I don't think they'd let you back into the inmate areas (or visitation) with a gun, right?

REALLY great experience tonight. OC'd at the St. Joe County Fair. All over the midway, grandstands (it was truck and tractor pulls night, sweet!) the 4-H barns... county deputies and explorers all over the place. Not a single person, cop or otherwise, said a single word at all. Beautiful.

Well, it finally happened. After over two years of daily open carry, I finally got asked to put my gun in my car.

The kicker? This is the fifth time I've been in there in the past month.

Henry Ford Optimize in Troy. I got my lasik surgery done through them. Did an hour long pre-visit, another half hour visit to sign paperwork and get prescriptions, the post operation visit, and then a week later followup. No issues at all. Now I go in for another followup, I'm just getting into the exam room when some administrator comes in. She says that someone saw my gun ("Yes...") and that she was going to ask me to put it in my car. I said something like, "It isn't illegal for me to carry here, and you are not posted." Her response is that they have a no weapons policy and she had talked to the director. So I said okay and started to walk out. I told her that this was the fifth time I'd been in here, and she asked "Carrying like that?" I respond yes, to which she says something about "Well, I'm over on the other side of the building." Okay...

So I put my gun away and walk back in. Had a really great conversation with the doctor's assistant (who was in the room during the exchange). She apologized and said she didn't agree with the policy, then asked a bunch of open carry and gun law questions. Near the end she said something about "You hear bits and pieces about carrying but never get the full story" so I told her that's one of the reasons I open carry. She said she'd be sure to talk to all her friends in the office (bustling with nurse-type assistants) about it. She liked the way I handled the response, and I explained how it becomes a trespassing / private property issue and it's not a weapons violation.

So, check that off the list. I think the only things left on my to-do list is to have a Positive LEO Encounter and a Negative LEO Encounter. I think I've got everything else covered.

(Edit: By the way, I didn't particularly like the fact I got disarmed, especially mere hours after a mass shooting in a gun free zone in Oregon, in a tiny town at a community college where "it could never happen here.")

Had a hell of a good time counter protesting the anti Islam protest today. Got interviewed by vice, al Jazeera, a news paper from Tokyo, and others. Told the Detroit news and free press I wouldn't be interviewing with them due to their constant track record of lying, manipulative slander.

How much of it will be published I don't know. But some already has been. http://www.arabamericannews.com/new...im-protest-in-Dearborn-draws-small-crowd.html

I'm glad you were there. It's a shame that the protesters got all the press. The major media outlets exclaiming that open carriers were supportive of protesting the presence of Moslems in Dearborn was to be expected. Nothing like giving them fodder for their propaganda against people who carry in general, open carriers specifically. Thank you for showing that open carry is bigger than any one group of people.

What was fun was as the reporters swarmed us with cameras, I preemptively called them out for being manipulative slanderous truth hiding liars and cited the past, which they didn't dare dispute, and predicted verbally to their faces they'd do the same today. I think we got good footage of this, so expect to see that on youtube.

By the way, important technical tip, we found it easy today to scare off nosey reporters by asking them to go on the record for an interview on our youtube channel.

excellent dialogue which educated those truly interested in the straight skinny...btw...might wish to scratch the neg LEO encounter off your bucket list...and aim higher towards something more fun...
