Crime statistics at ODU

I've got 71 emails in my inbox relating to crime events near ODU. I know for sure that not all crimes are reported through email, or even on the ODU Police Department's webpage. I sifted through them and found 30 events I used to compile the info presented here. On two occasions I have been very near one of these events in both time and place... armed in each circumstance.

File attached to post. After downloading the file, change the extension from .txt to .xls. (The OCDO forum software will not allow me to attach a file with a .xls extension.)

What I was aiming for was a histogram of times and number of attackers. They are below in that order.

Question: Does ODU comply location data in a mapped format? (I'll be surprised if they do not - it's a basic part of "community policing". :>) ) Or you could use one of those location tools from Google Maps that put push-pin icons on the map.

But if ODU is already doing the work, why are you replicating it? Can't remember the formal name of the "safe schools" law that applies to colleges, but all their data should be available just by going to their HQ and demanding a copy of their latest annual report. No need to even do it under FOIA. Then you can wade/weed through it to limit data to whatever specific crimes you want to look at. Heck, you might be able to get their data set electronically and just refine it from their own spreadsheet.

Putting a few more variables together visually could help greatly in changing the minds of some folks, or at least get them to start thinking about things.

Your data reflect what one might intuitively expect: multiple attackers operating at night.

I wonder why there was no instance of three attackers, given multiple instances of one, two, four, and five.

Actually I'm pretty sure I have seen an overlay on google maps with pins for each crime. I remember being disappointed with it because it lacked both crimes that were documented in my emails, and crimes that I knew had occurred and were not in my emails.
