But too bad newspaper said INCORRECTLY that Iowa state law bans gun carry in city parks - it does not!

Councilman David Wieland asked Olson if a ban would make City Hall a safer place.

"I can't say that's the case. If someone intends to come in and shoot someone, that probably won't make a difference," Olson said.

Gun rights groups have protested that the bans are not legal. They have not yet been challenged in court.

"I'd rather see how it shakes out in other places rather than be super proactive on this," said Councilman Nick Taiber.

State law already prohibits carrying guns in city parks.
