    OC in Warrensburg, MO area

    Hello, I am new to this group, but very excited to be able to exercise my rights and protect myself if needed. I'm just curious if anyone has had any issues with OC in the Warrensburg area as of late, any businesses that are known to have issues with OC. Also, I am by no means an advocate of mixing alcohol and firearms, but does anyone know the definition of "intoxicated" when it comes to carrying firearms? If I want to go out to eat and have a beer or 2 with my dinner, will I be okay, or does that mean no alcohol at all? Thanks to anyone and everyone that helps me understand this better. I would like to be able to do this the right way.

    I used to live in warrensburg and I never had a single issue there.

    As far as the current laws in Missouri, you could be fall down drunk and still be carrying a firearm legally as long as you don't do anything "negligent" with it.

    I don't necessarily advise that, but that is the law.

    Thank you. Obviously I'm not wanting to be fall down drunk. At the slightest hint of a "buzz" I would safely store my firearm. I just read in the laws that an intoxicated individual is not allowed to carry a firearm, and I wasn't sure what exactly intoxicated entailed.

    Welcome to Open carry.
    Im a contact for Missouri open carry.org .West central area . I live next to Whiteman. So if youd like to meet and talk sometime just let me know. We have a Meet and Great every 2nd Saturday of the month at 1600 (4 PM). This month it will be in Grandview. Check out http://www.missouriopencarry.org for the location. Maybe you can make it. You will be able to get some good food and talk to a group of good like minded people and have most of your questions answered there.

    hey welcome to the site. as far as I know JXD and I are the only two in the Whiteman area. We have one more people in Warrensburg. maybe well all get together some night for a local food outing. I haven't had any real problems around here with OC. As JXD and I have discussed a couple times there is an assistant manager in Wal-Mart who really doesn't like guns in his store, but he is not the final authority, so if you challenge him or stand up for what your doing he wont have ground to stand on. Just expect a dirty look. As far as restaurants go I have not had any issues. Enjoy your OC.

    Thank you both. I am actually stationed at Whiteman and I would love to meet with you guys some time and the group as well. I actually just got done with my first real OC experience. I was a bit nervous at first, but all want well. Gas station, hair cut, and grocery shopping at walmart with out much more than a few sidelong glances and the cashier having a friendly conversation with me about my weapon. All in all. Not a bad experience whatsoever. I know I'm just full of questions here, but as far as open carrying while in my vehicle it seemed to me that the statutes were somewhat contradictary. Can anyone explain how one is allowed to OC while in ones vehicle? Its on my hip when outside my vehicle, but while inside its not exactly visible. Loaded vs. unloaded? Like I said it seems to me that some of the parts of while in a vehicle contradicted themselves.

    Carry it however you like. RSMo 571.030.3 ( http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/c500-599/5710000030.htm ) says as long as you are 21 years old, and you lawfully possess it you can conceal it, not conceal it, whatever you like. There are other exceptions, but that's what lets me do it. If you have a question about a particular part, give us the cites, and we'll try to explain.

    We must have missed each other, we just returned from Wal Mart. Anyway I was going to wait until after tomorrows meet to post a date for a West central meet up. I was looking at March 26 maybe Sedalia or Warrensburg. I would like to get an idea of how many people OC in this area. Because of Missouri's peaceable journey clause in the car you can carry anyway you want but once you step out then other laws and ordinance apply

    Also and I know you know this but I have to say it. Unless you live on base do NOT take your gun on base.
    Afcarry would know more about transporting firearms on and off base. All I know is what they posted in the Warrior.

    I think you're missing a "not ". I'd hate for some misinformed soul to try to carry into Whiteman.

    Welcome to OCDO. Here are the relevant statutes:

    Definitions.

    571.010. As used in this chapter, the following terms shall mean:
    .
    .
    .
    (11) "Intoxicated", substantially impaired mental or physical capacity resulting from introduction of any substance into the body;

    Unlawful use of weapons--exceptions--penalties.

    571.030. 1. A person commits the crime of unlawful use of weapons if he or she knowingly:
    .
    .
    .
    (5) Has a firearm or projectile weapon readily capable of lethal use on his or her person, while he or she is intoxicated, and handles or otherwise uses such firearm or projectile weapon in either a negligent or unlawful manner or discharges such firearm or projectile weapon unless acting in self-defense;

    Okay, here we go. If your actually ON WAFB, there are a couple different rules that apply. Nothing too strenuous. The most pertinent question right now is are you a dorm rat now or are you in housing?

    Sorry guys, these past couple of days have been crazy busy. I actually don't live on base, I have a house on the south side of Warrensburg. The only reason I would take a firearm onto base would be to get the key for the base skeet range.

    I would have loved to have met up with you guys last night if I had known about it. If anyone wants to private message me Im willing to give out my phone number for things like this in the future. As far as the March 26th meet goes, I think my son has a soccer game that day in St. Charles, but I'm not quite sure yet. Thanks to everyone for all of your information and in case anyone has any doubts, I really am legitimately interested in all of this. I just tend to have a hectic schedule from time to time. Thanks.

    Welcome Woodchuck. I also live in Warrensburg. The Wal-Mart here has only been a problem on one occasion where I was asked to remove my weapon or leave. However, I open carry in there all the time, so I suppose some problems only arise if you happen to be seen by the wrong guy on the wrong day. Warrensburg, to my knowledge, is relatively open carry friendly. But remember: Don't try to carry on campus.

    Chiang, I'm not doing anything special that I know of, and I think some good chinese food at Ping's OC friendly establishment would be just fine.

    I might be able to attend Thursday night. It depends on what day I take off this week. I have yet to have any problems in Warrensburg, I've actually seemed welcomed, but this could just be my perception. I have a feeling I might know what manager would be unfriendly about open carry at Walmart. I have a few friends there and apparently its more of a power trip thing than anything else.

    Well good, lets settle a time. I'll be out of class around 2 but I'll be coming from downtown KC, I also have to pick up my wife and the baby. So, 4:00-4:30- 5:00 would be good for me, what do you guys think?
