Taurus 809 or Sig 2022

I'm trying to pick out my next handgun. I'm going to get one in the next few weeks, and I've narrowed down the characteristics to being: 9mm, DA/SA, External Hammer, Decocker, and a minimum 15 round magazine with a max price of 425.

I've narrowed things down, after a lot of looking and trying grips and such, to the Taurus 809 and the Sig 2022. Both have the features that I want, the Taurus having a little more of what I want than the Sig (has a safety, two extra rounds)..

But the Sig is a damned SIG.

Any opinions?

Taurus isn't remotely close to the Sig for reliablity, accracy and ergonomics. Have you ever heard of Gray Guns? Does custom gunsmithing and the owner is Bruce Gray, who is also a cop who could carry anything but bets his life on a Sig 2022? Look him up and do some reading on the 2022. It might be a polymer, but its still Sig quality

I am in no way shape or form a SIG fanboy, but the 2022 seems like a great deal for a very good pistol. SIG has a reputation of making very good firearms that are reliable and durable. Taurus hasn't always had the best reputation for those same attributes. Not to mention the +2 round count for the SIG, that's big in my book. Better have the extra 2 rounds than not if all else is equal.

Irish, I meant that the Taurus has the edge in ammo capacity, with a magazine holding 17 to the Sig's 15.

Regardless, I'm leaning heavily towards the 2022 myself, after having done some research on it. I don't think that the Taurus is a *bad* gun, or that Taurus has poor manufacturing, it's just that I can't find anything on the 809 since it's so new.

While I never, in good conscience, suggest 9mms. If you have to choose one, this one should'nt be bad. I've the same one in .45- the 845. Operate/function the same, the diff. is in overall weight and chambering (the 9 is heavier).
Function/reliability has thus far been perfect. Still working my way through it's "break-in", but thus far, zero FTF/FTE. Goes bang every time trigger is pulled-and sends the bullet straight.
I like that it's ambi in all of it's controls. That those controls are exactly where my 1911-trained hands are used to finding them, I like that it is very slim compared to most other hi-cap pistols,the sights are excellent.etc
For the price, no it's not a SIG/BRAND X ,Y, OR Z. But it's a good deal, I think.

One positive I can say for the 2022, is it looks like they finally got around to keeping that trigger bar INSIDE the darned thing, where it belongs. The few times I've handled other's SIGs with the exposed trigger bars-as well as 92F's and the like- it always seems as though something can bend or dent that bar and foul up the proper function of the trigger and/or reset.

Not knocking SIGs in the least, they make good stuff, but they are'nt immune to their own catastrophic failures.. nor is any brand.

I looked through the reviews on Taurus's website, but it's hard to take those seriously. First, you're only looking at the reviews that makes these handguns look good (It's on the Taurus website, you see). Second, some of these "reviews" are clearly biased towards making the handguns look good (the one you linked is from the publication "Taurus Exclusive", which I'm sure has nothing to do with Taurus IM).

Most mag reviews are indeed biased.Little more than paid adverts, so I dont bother with em. And most online reviews are usually tainted by some pre-existing bias in favor of or against one brand or other, so I dont bother with those either, usually.

When I selected my 845, I hadnt even seen/heard of it before. It was among a dozen or so that I was checking out in my shopping for a full-size .45. It's features, ergonomics and price were ultimately what decided the issue for me. Lots of great product out there, just not all of it works for me.
What good is a Model X, or Brand Super-Jam-a-Matic to me, if I cant shoot well with it because I can barely get my hands around the grips? I loved the FNP was considering that one hard before I tried the 845. They have nearly the same features, if not price, but the grips just didnt work with my stubby hands.Couldnt reach the mag release, etc..

I appreciate everyone's responses, I made my decision a few days ago and went and picked up the Sig 2022. I'm really impressed with its craftsmanship. It's a little awkward to disassemble, but that's alright. Since my sole handgun was previously a Walther P22, moving up to something with more power and more reliability was crucial in my decision, and in the end I was hard pressed to choose a Taurus over a Sig Sauer, since they were in the same price range.

In truth anti-socialist is anti-Taurus. Go to a range/gun store that will rent you both and make your own decision based on your own experiences. I own a Taurus altho' it's not the same model as you want. It's a PT140. Never had a problem. Figure it out on your own.

I did. More than ten days ago. Did you read my post above? It's directly above the one you are responding to.

At any rate: I don't have anything at all against Taurus, but Sig has a much better general reputation and they were in the same price range.
