SB 234 passes Senate CJ Committee!

The Senate Committee on Criminal Justice passed SB 234 on a 3-2 party line vote. Sen. Charles Dean voted in favor of the bill with reservations. An amendment was adopted removing the requirement for retention training, retention holsters, and display of CWFL prior to the vote on the bill. More details to come.

Me too! I had a scathing article all written up. Charlie Dean, as much reservation as he has on the bill, went up one notch in my book. But we'll see.

He still wants special exceptions to the 4th Amendment and to ignore standing court rulings on the matter... So he doesn't go up very far.

    LOTS!

Two more committees in the Senate
Three more committees in the House
    Full Senate Vote
    Full House Vote
    Then to the Governor.

It goes to Judiciary where it must be heard by the evil/idiot Senator Thrasher. He has killed campus carry this year so hopefully he won't want to upset gun owners any more than he already has.

Do we even need Dean's vote at the full Senate? It's humorous that his "reservation" is the very reason given for half the states NOT EVEN requiring a license to OC. It's assumed in the common law that an OCer has no sinister intentions and is peaceable.

With the makeup of this committee, what are the odds that it gets passed without destruction? Are there any particular reps they need to be reminded of the public support?

A special thanks to the guy from "Floridians to Prevent Gun Violence"

No matter what old Charlie really thinks, he does NOT want to be associated with the anti-gun groups. We'll never know but it's possible it pushed Dean over the edge in our favor. Hopefully, that guy will show up to all the meetings in the future.

Are there any issues to be concerned about with the rest of the steps this has to take before it reaches Rick Scott? And how long will that take?

Thrasher is the Chair of the Rules Committee.

Dean said he'd vote no on the floor.

Bingo, his 'reservations' are the complete opposite of rational thought. There's a Cop for you....

I'm worried about the senate. Gov said he's good to go. It will be very surprising if it doesn't pass House CJ 9-6, 10-5, or 11-4.

Can someone explain this a little better for me?

SB 234 passed the Criminal Justice Committee? Right? Now there is an entirely different bill not connected to SB 234, but it is identicle. That bill is being looked at tomorrow by House Criminal Justice Subcommittee? I guess I just don't understand how it works.

    House + Senate = Congress.

It has to pass through both. Each house has it's own subcommittees and generally mirror each other.

It's just like the Federal version.

No one person has such critical control over it after this point. The other committees have 7 and 13 senators each. Unfortunately, I'll getting a bad feeling about most of the Judiciary committee, it looks like it's full of soft neocons across the board. I think that'll be our biggest hurdle, really. Rules committee should be an easy go, and so would house/senate, we just have to get through the JC group... I think we'll be lucky if we squeak by 4-3 there.
