Looks like a M4 from the picture walking away, you can see the front sight and the muzzle.

Compare.

Either way he was OCing a long rifle, I wonder if he had more than a 20 round magazine? But it appears his face is coverd, which is a felony.
The first picture shows what appears to be a umbrella.

Forend is puffy like fabric and the end looks more like a cane tip than a flash hider.

Great. How many cop man-hours do you suppose were expended in this little exercise?

Several of our members correctly ID'd the item from the grainy online video. Apparently better than the cops could do with raw footage and their video enhancement software.

I don't know and I don't care. Everything about it is a non-issue. Throughout the winter months I've seen plenty of people with their faces covered everyday and the sky didn't fall. Why wonder if he was doing something else illegal and/or against mall policy just because it was proven that he wasn't breaking mall policy on the first accusation?

Now, mall owners and Roanoke residents just need to apply heavy pressure to find out who made the report that got a number of businesses shut down during a depression and a heavy police call-out.

And, who in the police chain of command was sending all those police.

And, who in the police chain of command was sending all those police.

The story stated that a clerk demanded that the mall be evacuated because of a man carrying a rifle.

Interesting, as they have this written, even off-duty LEOs are barred from carrying in this mall. I wonder how they feel about this, or if they even bother following the mall's written and published code of conduct.

Having OCed in the JC Penney there and the various restaurants in the parking lot I wonder if the mall thinks its policies apply for the anchor stores and surrounding businesses as well? Given that there is a Dick's Sporting Goods that sells guns, ammo, knives and baseball bats they certainly can't pretend to think that the mall policy applies to anything other than the hallways of the mall itself. Having worked in a JC Penney in high school I can't think of any time that mall security ever tried anything within our store. Heck if there's a Sears in the mall it's packed full of weapons.

And this is one reason why we OC, to educate people that guns are not bad, even in public. It does not surprise me the ignorance of some people.

I bet a Muslim woman could have walked in with her face completely covered and carrying an AK-47 under her burka, and no one would have dared to say anything about it, assuming that they would even be aware of it.

But ... a man with an umbrella arrives and they go to DEFCON ONE.

Is that profiling? You decide.
