Florida - Gun 'securely encased' in vehicle while parked on college campus.

Is it legal to keep my weapon under normal "securely encased" law in my vehicle in a campus parking lot. It's tough to understand the laws as they are written, i know i can keep it in my vehicle and i know i can't bring it onto school property. I've gotten differing opinions from those i ask. Is my vehicle still an extension of my home when i drive onto school grounds? What is the correct answer?

In Florida I believe it would only get you kicked out, if found out. My philosophy, no one will know you have it unless you have to use it. If you have to use it then that means your life is in jeopardy. In this case you'd rather have your life (in most cases) then your education at That college. Better to be tried by 12 then carried by 6 as the saying goes.

I asked Mr. Gutmacher the FL gun lawyer that exact question. This was his answer:

"the book advises it's a grey area -- it remains that way. If you don't have a CWP -- I don't recommend it. If you do -- then it's still a grey area -- but there are more arguments in your favor. If you have it on campus in the vehicle I advise in a locked glove compartment with NO OTHER PAPERS there -- as a police officer should not be able to search there without permission. If asked if there is a firearm while on campus -- I would use my standard "nothing illegal". That's the best I can do.

And it is my understranding that SB234's and HB517's 'parking lot' provisions will address this very issue, by making it acceptable. Please correct me if I'm wrong here if you understand this differently or more completely.
