I don't know if you can still apply, you'll need to call and find out. If nothing else, by calling this will give them an idea of how many people are interested and they may do another one (or not) and you may be able to get on a waiting list for the next class.

The Federal Way Police Departmentís Spring Citizen Academy will begin Tuesday, March 22, 2010. The goal of Citizensí Academy is to create a better understanding and communication between citizens and police through education. The intent is not to produce civilians trained in law enforcement, but to help community members better understand the City's police department. This is an opportunity for the citizens of Federal Way to know more about the men and women who are protecting their community and why they make the decisions they do. As participants go through the academy, they gain a better understanding of the department's decision-making processes, how and why policies are created, as well as what an officer faces everyday. More importantly, citizens can also determine for themselves how effective the department is in serving the community.
Citizen's Academy is a two-way educational process. While citizens are learning all about what police officers do on a daily basis, officers are also hearing how citizens feel about issues. The department gains an understanding of the concerns of residents and the perceptions they have of the police department.
Academy participants will meet every Tuesday for 10 weeks, beginning March 22 and ending May 24 Classes run in the evenings from 7-9pm. Classroom sessions cover topics such as patrol operations, criminal investigations, K9, SWAT and support services.
Anyone who wants to learn more about how the Federal Way Police Department operates is encouraged to apply. Preference is given to those living or working in the Federal Way city limits.
If you are interested in attending, please go to the City of Federal Way website at www.cityoffederalway.com and fill out the application. To be considered for the Academy you must turn in your application no later than February 25, 2011.
