Gilbert police: Man killed in road-rage incident

Road rage on a street at SanTan Village shopping center in Gilbert has resulted in the death of a 56-year-old man.

Mitchell Fickes was pronounced dead at a Scottsdale hospital Saturday evening after a traffic altercation at Williams Field Road and Market Street.

Gilbert police said Fickes was shot by a 23-year-old man, who was released at the scene by police.

The case, which is being treated as self-defense, will be sent to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review, police said.

The name of the 23-year-old was not made public by police.

Sounds about like it. "Enraged man leaving car. With gun. My life is in immediate danger."

As we get more comfortable with openly carried firearms, people will develop better restraint.
