GRNC Alert 4-18-11:
Protect Shooting Ranges - Support SB 560

Finally after years of work, a bill to better protect North Carolina shooting ranges is positioned for a hearing. SB 560, "Sport Shooting Range Protection," sponsored by Sen. Andrew Brock (R-Davie, Rowan, GRNC ****) and co-sponsored by Sen. Warren Daniel (R-Burke, Caldwell, ****) is on the calendar for Tuesday, April 19 in the State & Local Government Committee.

In recent years, urban (and sub-urban) encroachment on existing shooting ranges by an often anti-gun population has impeded use of existing ranges. Worse, any shooting range which relocates due to development, condemnation or rezoning loses its "grandfather" rights under our flawed 1995 range protection statute. Now you have a chance to put protections in place against this growing problem.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

Email members of the State & Local Government Committee. Tell them to support SB 560 with the pre-written message or one of your own.

Call your state senator. Tell him or her to support the bill. You can find your senator by going to:

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Dear State and Local Government Committee Member:

SB 560, "Sport Shooting Range Protection," is long overdue. For years, rapid development and possible condemnations have impeded the use of existing shooting ranges, thus threatening shooting sports and firearm safety. Worse, if a range has a right-of-way run through its property, it can’t even relocate without losing its protection under our existing -- and flawed -- range safety statute.

I urge you to support SB 560. I will be following the progress of this bill through Grass Roots North Carolina legislative alerts.

Sincerely,

A Concerned North Carolina Citizen
