Security Officers recording personal information when checking firearms

One of the trips to obtain a Public Records Request, the Security Officer at the entrance wanted to record my CPL, Drivers License along with Make Model and Serial number of my carry weapon.
When I expressed my objection to this, he still recorded CPL and Model with Caliber.

I contacted the Chief on this and voiced my concerns, be it open or concealed and that some like to carry sterile and it seems he has addressed this issue. It appears a Security Officer was making up his own rules as he went, but no longer the case here.

A quick update—I have had our Legal Dept. review this matter, and have also had further discussions with Phoenix Security. The end result is that the security officers will still make sure individuals who are carrying concealed have a CPL, but they will not be recording any information about firearms—I also went over with them how to handle citizens who are have elected to “open carry”.

Again, thanks for bringing this to our attention—Greg Copeland

What? People in positions of "authority" making the rules up as the go? Who would ever think that happens?

Good job on heading that one off at the pass although I doubt that Security Guard will be adding you to his Christmas Card list.

This was at their new complex that houses City Court, Police Department and 911 Services.
The metal detectors are at the front entrance much like Pierce County Court House but in a smaller scale.
You enter into a rotunda that has direct access to the court rooms and then a secured door to the Police Department.

Yakima County Court House is being revamped but up until this time, signs at entrance posted security's phone number to call and have them escort you to where you can secure your firearm.

    Nicely done...

I would not have allowed the information to be copied down. I am sure that the legal beagles on this site could articulate the situations where we are required to provide the information, but that is certainly not one of them!

The Constitution of the United States does not grant rights to citizens; it limits the powers of government to infringe on the rights which have already endowed upon us by our Creator. One of those is the right to keep and bear arms, to defend our persons and property in any manner we see fit.

    Good job Dave.

I am having problems with Whatcom now demanding ID. Unfortunately the Prosecutor is our Sheriff's legal advisor and the prosecutor is endorsing the wrong rule by the security guards. (Who then take their orders from Mike Rawley, head of facilities)

Looks like your chief is more reasonable.

of their respect for what only appears to be a law, are cunningly coerced into waiving their
    rights, due to ignorance." (Paraphrased)

    Dave,

Any details on how they are supposed to "handle" people who are open carrying?

    PS Well done, good contact.

I am sure they will handle it by state law as open carry is legal in the state and no permit is required to do so.
As the only reason they check for a CPL are those who carry concealed.

I have been able thus far to have a good working relationship with the City and County of Yakima on 2nd amendment issues.

My next travel there will be open carry to see first hand.
