Folks,

I just got back from a happy night of shooting my new Kimber 1911s, and from taking one of my ex college students shooting for the first time. Tonight is supposed to be a good night, and I came back here: back to the reality that, while my 1911s are my best-shooting guns, I have to strap a smaller, lighter, and less accurate 1911 IWB because carrying the Colt Gold Cup or the Kimber Custom would be untenable.

I get back to reading a comment from Ixtow stating that in order to try and talk some common sense into a Senator (in this case Dean) you have to be prepared to be placed on an enemy list, and you have to be prepared to endure abuse(s) of power. This is an unbearable situation, and I want you to know: we are a strong and vocal group that needs our marching orders, and we need them as soon as we can have a meeting of the minds regarding what our next steps should be.

We email-bombed during the committees, and then later during the voting. We called. We visited the local offices. What should we do next? My local Senator (Diaz de la Portilla) deserves a thank-you note and a box of chocolates. I would vote for him again in a heartbeat; however, the situation with the eight Senators who remain staunchly anti-rights needs to be remedied, and it can only be remedied by either changing their minds or voting them out.

Political machines shouldn't scare us. We're stronger than that. They got rid of their corrupt government in Egypt with a fraction of the internet "firepower" that We have in the United States, so it's time to organize this thing into a major movement. As an NRA member (I know they screwed us, but for the dark times they were all we had) and a new Florida Carry member, I want you to know that I'm ready, and it appears like you are ready too.

In these dark days, the Bogdanoff and Dean days, I'm searching for some leadership from our elder members: the folks who know their stuff. You know who you are, so make the call from headquarters and tell us what we should be doing next. We're here.

My local Senator (Diaz de la Portilla) deserves a thank-you note and a box of chocolates.

Jesus:

I don't know if Portilla deserves this or not, because if he really believed in 2A, then he should have had the balls to stand up to Bogdanoff and this ******** amendment on the floor, instead he said nothing.

I think you really need some new blood, and I am more than willing to go with you to meet Mr. Portilla and let him know that he needs to support our 2A rights, and remind him of that.

This is what I posted as a comment on the Florida Carry facebook page.

Don't you understand that these bastards want to be able to control you and your life, so if they make it excruciatingly difficult for you to own a gun, then they have achieved their objective. The founding fathers were geniuses in understanding this, ergo the 2nd amendment. The first thing a power hungry bastard does to the populace is take away your guns. This is what they did in Cuba, Venezuela et al. Fight them at every turn you have, never give in, never give up.

We see mostly eye-to-eye on things,Jojo. On this though-I differ a bit.
My take is this: The entire lot of them need to see/feel/hear/appreciate some kind of blowback from their mistake. And it needs to sting.
They need to grasp the concept that more and more voters are less willing to sit back and take things, than has been the case in the past.
Im sure there are some good legislators there.
Some even with some good intent, who are, or will do, some good for their district. But-when they sit on their hands and watch from the side, as others take certain actions that they know to be wrong, they are just as guilty as the ones taking action.

There was no doubt-or should'nt have been- how much a lot of voters wanted this bill to go through un-molested. Between here, the media, the events, and the letters/emails and calls they received-they cant possibly not know.
What they demonstrated was a willingness to sacrifice the desires of a lot of voters, in favor of a handful of folks in a few interests. And for that, the penalty should be replacement at the next oppty.

I agree with you on most things as well. But I differ on my sampling of what the People want. They want it this way. Especially Floridians.

My offer to print out and eat my words stands. ;-) Prove me wrong.

Well, here's the thing- you are projecting the actions of our reps on the will or desire of the "people", the voters.
Yet we both know that once in office, most of these folks turn that backs completely on their voters at the first offer of a hand-job from a lobbyist who is willing to drop some silver in their next campaign chest.
How then, is that the desire of the people, or representative of what the people want or not?
It's not the citizens with which one must take issue-it's the representatives who do everything but represent.
And this isnt recent. It goes at least as far back as the Senate of the Roman Republic.

50% don't care at all. They want sports, porn, and cigarettes. These are the proles of Orwell's 1984. They're really into the lottery. 25% of the other voters want government goodies. The voters who are somewhat pro-liberty don't take an in depth interest. So, for example, Senator Dean says he is a strong advocate of the 2nd amendment. This, and a few pictures next to a dead buck suffice for bona fide credentials. We have to goad this last group.

Precisely. I am doing this because it's accurate. Floridians want to be told what for and then do as zach said below. They want it this way. When I suggest that law makers are supposed to do what we tell them, Floridians scream blasphemy. Tell me I have a problem with authority and I better shut up or they're going to call the cops!

Floridians want it this way. Because I'm the only native Floridian they've ever met...

Diaz de la Portilla was of the eight Senate NO votes on our list, and one we were very concerned about because we didn't think we could flip him.
