Kicked out of PT's Place on Nellis, north of Stewart, before we'd even ordered. I informed the bartender that the reason we were meeting at PT's was specifically because their corporate policy welcomes us and we are regulars at several PT's throughout the the valley. He shrugged his shoulders at me and made it clear I was not welcome. I immediately complied and left, under the glaring stares of his regulars, but informed him that I would be notifying his corporate office. There were three of us there at the time, meeting to discuss some ideas to counter the Bloomberg carpetbaggers all over the valley. The three of us included two NRA certified instructors. I was the only OC'er at the time, in a very neat appearance with my NRA instructor polo and khakis. My large S&W 625 revolver was in a $400 sharkskin belt and holster. I'm thinking this guy would rather have sloppy bums in his bar as long as he can't see a gun. What a power-trippy ignoramus. There were only maybe four other customers in there at the time, and we were going to be a party of six.

Because the group had been given flexible times to meet up, expecting to be inside and refreshed, the three of us had to stand in the parking lot about 40 minutes while others arrived until we were all present before finding a new place to meet. We went to the PT's Pub on Lake Mead Blvd, between Christy and Hollywood. I chose this one because it is already known that they follow their corporate policy regarding firearms and have a history of welcoming OC'ers. Scott, the bartender there, was happy to see us (he recognized me from previous visits anyway) and expressed surprise at the treatment we received at the other location. At my request, he gave me some names for some contacts at PT's corporate office.

All the good search terms are too short. Where is that old PT's thread? Does anyone know the people at corporate that have already been involved with the issue?

I went to California for the weekend and not only missed the meeting, I missed this? Dang it!

Several things of late

Was in the local 711 a few days ago. As I was leaving one of the guys behind the counter said to me that it was good to see me OC. I thanked him but did not have time to chat as I was in a hurry.

On Friday afternoon I was in Food For Less. I stopped and picked up a flyer at the door and was looking through it when one of the managers came up to me. She asked what I was carrying and I told her a Ruger LCR .357. She then asked me if I knew that most of the time when people come in open carry (meaning she sees others I would take it) other customers complain and call the police? That she was just talking to one of them and told them that I was ok but they called the police anyway. (The police never showed up.) I told her to tell them that they need to be worried about the ones they don't see as bad guys don't show you what they have until it's too late. Also tell them that chances are that wherever they are the odds are good that somebody in the crowd is armed, that they just don't know it because they can't see it. She then told me that she used to have a nice 1911 and a .30-30 but had to sell them.

Yesterday, again at Food for Less, I was approached to sign Bloomberg's petition, (again). I told him to tell Bloomberg to go back to New York. In talking to the young man, he admitted he didn't even know what the petition was about, he just got paid for signatures. I told him what it was about. He then asked me about my open carry and wanted to know what you had to do to be able to do such. I explained it to him and he thought it was cool. He was also passing around a petition to legalize marijuana. I signed it but told him I didn't believe it went far enough. In order to be a free society you have to have the right to be stupid. That all drugs should be legal and we could start closing prisons. That putting people in prison for smoking MJ did nothing to protect society. This petition is just another example of something is bad until you pay the government its fee, then it isn't bad anymore.

Bite of LV - sucked

Went to the Bite of LV last night. Horrible.

First off, cops everywhere and with their cars blocking a traffic lane going into the parking lot making you have to merge around their cars and then back over again. Just stupid. And they (the cops) were doing absolutely nothing.

Second, pat-downs at the gate. I was gonna try open carry until I saw the pat-downs and then tried cc, but was stopped for a pat-down. I refused and asked for a supervisor who came over and told me no weapons allowed and pat-downs were mandatory. Should've just left right then and there, but instead took my gun to my car and returned. This time, as they saw me leave and were instructed to let me back in when I got back, I walked right in with no pat-down. The wife neither, go figure. If we hadn't paid nearly $20 a ticket, drove all that way, were meeting friends and were looking forward to some awesome brews I would have left.

Third, NO LOCAL BREWS at the bite of LAS VEGAS. Coors has bought out the event and has exclusive distribution to the event. I definitely will not be going back. Spread the word.....

NOTE: I mass emailed this to my contacts, to local news, on Yelp and others. Bite of Las Vegas should have Las Vegas brews and respect laws of this community. It was, instead, a corporate event that should be renamed "Bite of Big Money Wins Again".

I had a pretty interesting day. I was eating at pin kao thai restaurant on rainbow & lake mead with my girlfriend. We were sitting next to the wall and I was strong side out. We started hearing a comotion towards the front of the restaurant about 12 feet from our table. Some women were getting up from their tables and looking out the windows (the whole front of the place is glass windows), looking fairly panicked. Overhearing them talking, there was an armed robbery taking place two doors down at Molly's Casino. I hadn't heard any gun shots and didn't feel immediately threatened, but I certainly paid close attention to what the ladies were saying. I could see that a number of people were already on the phone calling the police, and a person looked to be locking the front door.

After a moment I could see a small asian man calmly aproach the front door outside, but when he reached it he just turned around and walked back out of view. I couldn't quite see if he was armed, but his demeanor told me that he hadn't just robbed a casino, and there were a few people in the parking lot anyway. Even so, a thousand thoughts ran through my head, thinking about how poor of a situation I was in to get in a gun fight. So many people standing around in the way, unknowing how many robbers there were, and not knowing how many other people in the restaurant were armed like me.

After a surprisingly short few minutes the police arrived, and I heard the owner of the restaurant tell the officer that she saw the robbers take off a few miutes earlier behind the building.

I won't lie - it scared the **** out of me. I can't imagine how I would have felt if it was any worse. But nobody was hurt in the casino and there weren't any shots fired.

Thanks for sharing. That just a small example of how confusing a dangerous situations can be. So much going through a persons mind trying to asses what is happening, processing the information and deciding what is the best action to take.

Glad it turned out the way it did. I have eaten their in the past is was great food however was a coworker and glad because I had not idea what I was eating.

Ironically, one of the officers popped his head in to make sure everyone was ok. The owner recognized him and said "Oh yeah, we're fine in here. Am I going to see you at dinner?"

Casa Don Juan restaurant downtown

We had a quiet dinner at Casa Don Juan (http://casadonjuanlv.com/) the other night. Good food, our first time in. It's located downtown at 1204 S. Main St.

Had some diners outside notice the OC going in but don't think the staff noticed right away other than possibly a server as we were being seated. I sat weak side out. We seemed to be getting some very respectful special treatment so I'm assuming the staff was notified.

No issues or mentions from anyone, just a nice evening in and out.

Tough issue noted in the prior posts but knowing me I'd probably have safely gone looking for trouble LOL.

Did I mention that I was a firefighter for years? We tend to head to danger at times...

bite (me) of las vegas

Well I got one reply back so far from CBS (94.1 FM) about the pat-downs at the Bite (me) of Las Vegas. Apparently that was for my security. You know, unlike my sidearm and my CCW was. Oh, and "they never promised it was a beer fest". Hm, do you suppose Coors thought that when they bought it out? If beer had nothing to do with it then why Coors?

Look, the Bite (me) of Las Vegas is supposed to be about local food and such. No local brews is NOT the Bite (me) of LAS VEGAS. Pat-downs is NOT LAS VEGAS. At least not as far as being LOCAL is concerned. If you don't like oc, cc or guns then change the law.

Keep serving up your crappy stock holder Coors beer and performing half hashed pat-downs per their request as CBS MCs the the thing and I'll just keep on boycotting it.

Btw, I have posted on Yelp only twice in the last 4 years and both times my review has been removed the next day as deemed by Yelp as "not applicable to this business". So, in addition to knowing that the Bite (me) of Las Vegas is a joke, Yelp is a repeat offender. Google it. They've been sued for it before. Yelp is a ad site in sheep's clothing. The more you know....

First Friday

Heading to First Friday tonight. Will be in the area of 3rd & Colorado listening to a buddy's bluesy / groovy band. Stop by! I'll be the one oc'ing.

Too bad they don't have 1/2 hash pat-downs instead "for my safety" like Bite (me) of LV did.

COOL! The band really is awesome. A bunch of 40 somethings just jamming to whatever feels groovy. Last month I saw some young black 20 somethings come walking through grooving / dancing to it. I told my buddy that was the seal of approval.

Hope to see yas!

Henderson, NV now Texas. I move a lot.
Finally!

Well, as the title said, it finally happened -- I saw not one but TWO people OC'ing!

As you may know, I comment regularly on my uneventful OC trips while often taking umbrage that I never see anyone else do so. Yesterday, that changed as me and the wifey were at Walmart and 'lo and behold', TWO OC'ers!

One had a Glock and the other a 1911 with wood grips.

I feel that I was remiss in not saying 'Hi' or something leading to the OC issue (though I thought about it) but I was a bit cranky from strolling the place and just wanted to get back to doing stuff more enjoyable than shopping for boring stuff.

Still... it was nice to finally see another [x2!] in 'the wild'.

PS:

Some kid actually noticed that I was carrying and said "Coooool!" --perhaps one has a better line of sight when they're 4' tall when it comes to OC. :D
