LD35, the parking lot bill: I see one glaring flaw in this law. It requires the vehicle to be locked, not the gun. A gun securely locked in a safe, which is completely hidden from view, would not qualify if it was a non-lockable vehicle like a soft-top Jeep or a motorcycle with saddlebags.

LD446, non-resident and retired LEOs: Superfluous and pointless. Such carry is already legal under LEOSA; Maine duplicating the language changes nothing. States duplicating federal law is generally a bad idea, especially when the federal law is modified and the states don't keep up.

It clarifies the issue. A Lt. of the MSP testified the issue can be burdensome for all parties concerned. Not any more.

But it doesn't change or make the requirements less burdensome... This new statute just mimics the federal law already in place with the same burdensome requirements. This statute does nothing but make something legal that was already legal in the same manner that it was already legal without changing or easing any restrictions whatsoever.
