My dad is wanting to buy a new shotgun, he has bought several in the past (22+ years ago) he claims he didn't need a ppp back then, and this is before i was born so i cant argue. Question is can he buy a shotgun with no ppp nowadays or does the same rules apply when buying a pistol?

Well from what I have read the ansewer is NO you don't need a PPP to buy a long gun. ( Shotgun or rifle ) You will fill out the standard form for any firearm purchase though.
