Rick Perry isn't the worst, I'd take him over Obama or Bush. I'll "waste" my vote on Ron Paul. I agree with him on almost everything. He openly calls for the repeal of NFA 34, GCA 68 and the Bush import ban of 1991 and the Reagan/NRA ban on machine guns made after 1986. Voting the "lesser of two evils" is how we got where we are.

Yup...Ron Paul has both spoken about his support for the 2nd Amendment and used his vote in Congress to back it up. Like others, I agree almost 100% on every issue with him. Guess you all know where my vote is going...:D

I think Ron Paul has enough fed-up conservatives and libertarians and constitutionalists that a vote for him is not wasted this go around. I'm still planning on voting for him in the primaries.

Hey guys did your hear the speak that Governor Rick Perry gave?.... He believes all good and well in the second amendment and that every citizen should keep and bear arms!!!...
I don't know what "speak" you heard, but I did hear him on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk Radio show, here:

http://traffic.libsyn.com/guntalk/110522guntalkC.mp3

Tom let him blather on, telling his story of shooting the coyote, talking about what a pro-2A guy he is, what his pro-gun hopes for the Legislature are, and then you could practically hear Perry's eyes go wide when Tom asked him about open carry.

Perry stammered and stuttered and back-pedaled and finally spit out, "I'm just really a strong concealed carry guy." Wouldn't commit to open carry at all, other than finally conceding it might be okay as a personal choice out in the country where nobody would be scared by it.

Howdy Pard!
Good to hear from a Texan who knows something about this particular Texas governor. When you look around at states with the most restrictive laws regarding open carry, Texas is right up there. Their recent attempt to pass an open carry bill went down and won't be happening this time around in the legislature. Folks on the Texas forum are saying "Next time!" Well, from what I understand, that's likely to be two years down the road. Meanwhile, no open carry in Texas!

But what bothers me about Perry is his assertion that Texas might consider pulling out of the union of states. How can anyone take seriously a candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America when he is on record as suggesting pulling his state out of that very union.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/16/texas-governor-says-secession-possible/

But more compelling is this independent look at the possible run for presidency of the United States by Rick Perry:
http://www.businessinsider.com/why-rick-perry-shouldnt-run-for-president-2011-6

Business Insider isn't some left wing radical rag. It is a respected and conservative publication that poses some serious food for thought regarding Perry.

Personally, I regard with a jaundiced eye any candidate or potential candidate who intimates their state might seceed from the Union. Same problem I have with Palin.

I'd rather support a candidate who will uphold the United States of America and the Constitution than one who envisions removing their state from that union. While Perry did not state they'd actually remove Texas from the union of states, why bring it up unless there is contemplation along those lines in his head already? Ditto Palin, who has spoken at Secession rallies in Alaska.

Ron Paul would be a much wiser choice, IMHO, but then again, I do not see where the 2nd amendment has been advanced by either possible contender.

Like it or not, Obama has not instigated any new gun control regulation thus far. There are rumors that he might, but looking at what he has actually done would be practical.
Obama signed into law more rights for the law abiding gun owner. Specifically, allowing concealed carry weapons in National Parks and Wildlife refuges.
http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2009/08/obama_chided_for_allowing_guns.html
and
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-08-15-obama-saturday_N.htm

This law replaced a more restrictive measure passed during the Reagan Administration requiring gun owners to secure their weapon in the glove compartment and leave it there.

The last gun control measure to be saddled onto the American people was the Brady Bill, which was promoted by Republicans following the assassination attempt on Reagan. Parts of that bill were so restrictive as to be thrown out through the judical process. (i.e. "three day waiting period" for handgun purchase).

When we consider our choice for the next President of the United States, I'd strongly recommend taking a hard look at their record. What have they done? What have they supported? What does the record say of their actual conduct rather than any rumors that have been generated about the candidate? Its one of those "Where the rubber meets the road" sort of deals.

I won't vote for any candidate to be President of the United States who isn't solidly behind the union of states that the job requires him to uphold. I won't vote for any candidate who isn't solidly behind the Constition as the rule of law in America. And I won't be favoring any candidate who speaks of secession as an alternative to devoting his energy to making America better for all Americans!

That's my opinion, and I'll take that opinion to the polling booth.

Blessings,
M-Taliesin

Rick Perry

The oath of office of the President requires that the oathtaker protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. There is nothing the the Constitution that prevents a State from legally seceding from the union, and at the moment there are quite sufficient reasons to do so. The federal government has become as overbearing as King George and the Declaration of Independence applies as much today as it did 235 years ago.
I don't know Rick Perry or his record, yet, but will be happy to learn. I've been a Ron Paul fan for many years, though if he doesn't get the nomination, I will look for another Constitutionalist to take his place as the nominee. I will vote third party before I would vote for a RINO, ie McCain, Gingrich, Romney, etc. RINO Bush made Obama possible, if not inevitable, and to repeat that folly be the epitome of idiocy.

A Politician is a politician is a ********

Rick Perry would make a good president. I, however, am looking for a great president. The reason Rick backed off on open carry is that he probably thinks most people are against open carry. They are not!! He is being a politician. Nationwide, Texas has a reputation of being overwhelmingly pro 2nd Amendment. It is pretty darn restrictive as being one of only 7 states banning open carry. Would I vote for him? Absolutely. At the risk of offending the many patriots on this site, I would vote for Romney, Pawlenty, Santorum, Palin, Bachman, Paul, Cain, Johnson, Gingrich, Trump, Huckabee, Barbour, Christie, Huntsman, Guliani, etc etc etc. over our current president.

Of course they're all better, albeit many of them only negligably so. I'd definitely go for Paul, West, Cain, first though, Palin, Romney and the others are just a "better than the other one" vote for me...

That was an attachment to a credit card bill. Obama wouldn't have signed that as a stand alone bill. And look at his two SCOTUS nominees. That's his route to gun control, and why he needs to defeated in 2012. I like Ron Paul, but if he runs as a third party candidate he'll draw more voters from the republican nominee than he will from Obama. Not a big deal in states like CA, MA, NJ, NY, etc, but a huge deal in swing states.

Republicans, like Democrats, have lost sight of what their name is. The fact that a Libertarian Party has even come into existence shows how far off track they are.

A new party has been invented to do what they used to be. The Democrats have created a similar problem by becoming so Marixist that even the Communist party thinks they've gone crazy...

Neither of the major parties represents the values their names suggest.

I'll be glad to 'waste' my vote on someone who isn't evil as all hell. Yay Ron! He'll die of old age before he gets a nomination from the Republicans.... And he'll still get my vote. I'll see the Democrats run this nation into the ground before I vote for a Republican. the Democrats will do the job much faster, and get us to a point we can start over. Republicans will drag it out and strip away the things we need to rebuild.

I might even vote for Obama; the fastest route to rock bottom is our fastest route to rebuilding. I'd prefer not to pass it on to the next generation. Lets deal with it NOW.

Kthulu 2012; why choose the lesser evil? It only prolongs the problem.

We have a one party system here in Amerika. If not Ron Paul, I hope Obama wins. Many "conservatives" I know are much more anti-state now that a black democrat is in office. Anti government attitudes should always be nurtured. If obama had an R in front of his name, they'd turn their guns in with a smile. They're getting ready to vote for Romney as we speak. Here is a man who is the author of Obama care. A man who signed a permanent "assault weapons" ban in Mass. You can't always judge a book by its cover, but Romney also looks like a vicious criminal, IMO. I feel uneasy just looking at him. But with obama, the mantra is "...out of my cold dead hands."

Paul first, Johnson second (although I would support a Johnson/Paul ticket for "age" electability).

Cain is a mercantilist. Romney is a socialist. Palin and Bachmann are ditzes. Pawlenty has a good budget, but for the most part he's just another big-government guy trying to fine-tune something that needs a major reset.

That's as hysterical funny as a flood at the Alka Seltzer factory!
Love it!

I once had a "Campus Crusade for Kthulu" bumper sticker on my car's rear bumper.
One day, while on my way to work, I was stopped at a traffic light. Looking up into the rearview mirror, I saw some guy in a suit with a tie look at that bumper sticker while raising his sunglasses off his eyes to see it better. I was clearly able to read his lips as he said "What the *****"

It's not easy to drive when you're laughing so hard your eyes water!

And I thank you for another laugh this morning as I read your reference to Kthulu. I suspect few understand the reference. I'm pretty sure Palin or Bachman wouldn't! LOL!

Blessings,
