Jane Pike may very well be the subject of a lawsuit.

Under the banner of a local OC-friendly civil rights organization, I applied for a Park Permit at Sunset Park. Originally, we declined to obey the park rule prohibiting firearms, and they would not accept our application. Finally, we agreed in writing to follow all park rules, and paid the $100 park reservation fee. A week before our event, Jane Pike personally contacted me and explained that we were being denied our permit. I explained we would not be carrying weapons, as we agreed to all park rules, and she still declined the permit. The $100 was returned by check. She even arrogantly followed up that denial in writing to our attorney!

Independent of the fact that state law voids the park rule prohibiting firearms, her denial of a park permit for a pro-OC organization, which agreed to obey all park rules, is clearly discriminatory. The way I see it, we now have two cases.

Unfortunately, I have a lot of balls in the air at the moment and I'm unable to pursue this action just yet. IIRC, this was last year around this time, so we still have a year to file before the statute runs out.

On the other hand, I'd be happy to attend an event if someone else organizes it. We can do plenty of things without risking arrest, and our numbers will be improved if we don't risk arrest. Letter writing can't hurt, but I've been trying for years and have made no progress. Clark County is above the law and they know it.
