LONDON (AFP) – A Manchester householder, his son and his son's girlfriend have reportedly been arrested after a suspected burglar was stabbed to death while trying to break into the man's home.
The incident comes two days after Prime Minister David Cameron vowed to bring in stronger measures to protect homeowners defending their property.
The intruder was attempting to get into a house on Ethel Avenue in Salford, Greater Manchester, just before midnight on Wednesday when the householder is believed to have acted to defend his property.
The dead man, whom police have not named, is believed to have been carried away from the address by other members of a balaclava-clad gang as they fled.
Police have put up a 100-metre cordon around the terrace house, which backs on to open scrubland close to a council recycling centre in the Pendlebury area of Salford.
Locals said they understood intruders tried to break into the back door of the property, then police received a 999 call from a woman at the house.
A spokeswoman for the Greater Manchester force said: "Police are investigating after a man died in Salford.
"Just before midnight, police were called to an address on Ethel Avenue, Pendlebury, following reports of a burglary and a group of men carrying an injured man on to Hospital Road.
"On arrival at Hospital Road, police found a 26-year-old man with stab wounds.
"He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead."
The Manchester Evening News said the householder, his son and his son's girlfriend have all been arrested.
"It is believed four men forced their way into the house, and were confronted by the residents," the newspaper said.

Looks like the gun ban isn't enough to keep people from killing each other. Better ban knives too!
[/sarcasm]

From the story it sounds like the homeowner did what he needed to do to protect himself and his family.

We ought to know-the United States of America is a socialist country, has been for a while and the powers that be are trying to make it even more so. If you don't know that, you are not in touch with reality. However, I believe the government would have a civil war on it's hands if it tries to take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. It's not really about guns-it's about the freedom and RIGHT to have them that they want to take away from us.

Yep.

Quick demonstration:

Q: What was Karl Marx's slogan about economic redistribution?
A: "From each according to his ability; to each according to his need."

Q: What are income tax brackets?
A: (hint) "From each according to his ability..."

Q: What was Marx's plan for banking?
A: Centralization of credit. Central banks. Compare with Federal Reserve, Bank of England.

See Communist Manifesto.

They, "knives' are banned down under! In fact all forms of armed self defence is banned in Aus! And I agree, the home owner had every right to protect himself. He may be charged with stabbing this home invader, he may even be charged with murder, but, at least he is alive which is better than the scum bag he killed being alive today.

Heck, I read a story in a Brit paper about a grey haired lady who was either arrested or fined for carrying an "offensive" knitting needle for self protection..... I'm serious.

Hi 'Nelplusultra'

When firearms were banned here and assult, rape, bashings and car nappings were increasing at a rapid rate, women started carrying items such as knitting needles, hair and hat pins, cans of poison sprays or any kind of spray cans and other items to try and ward off criminals. Some women were caught with these items and were charged with carrying offensive or dangerous weapons, and these items were put on the offensive weapons list and all forms of armed self defence was then outlawed. Hows that for looking after law abiding citizens?

Yet, they are always saying stupid Americans and their guns and stupid laws. At least here we can defend ourselves. Who's stupid now?
