http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...knife-and-stab-a-burglar-says-Ken-Clarke.html
Householders who stab burglars will not face criminal charges, Kenneth Clarke, the Justice Secretary, said [29JUN11].

"If an old lady finds she has got an 18 year-old burgling her house and she picks up a kitchen knife and sticks it in him, she has not committed a criminal offence and we will make that clear."
...
"We will make it quite clear you can hit the burglar with the poker if he is in the house and you have a perfect defence if you do so.''
But they still can't own or use most firearms...

There are many people here who are much more aware than I of how much training & practice it takes to use a knife in self-defense.
I don't see the first scenario up there turning out well for the granny.

Besides, there's a huge difference between having a "perfect defence" and not being charged, or even potentially charged, with a crime.

Criminals use guns, so we allow our citizens to defend themselves with knives. Perfect British logic....

Perfect no and in spite of some of their more socialist anti-gun under any circumstances crowd not all of the UK citizens feel that way. Here are some of the progun groups in case you want to join one or more and give them your support.

BRITISH Police called on retired officers to help quell rioters as far-right vigilante groups promise to do the job for them.

News_Rich_Media: Policeman hit during riotsNews_Rich_Media: Looters in ManchesterThe leader of a British far-right group says its members are taking to the streets of British cities as vigilantes in an attempt to quell riots that have spread across the country for four nights.

Stephen Lennon, leader of the English Defence League, told The Associated Press that up to 1,000 members planned to turn out in Luton, where the group is based, and others areas that have suffered unrest, including the northwestern city of Manchester.

This keeps up and the Brits might have their first civil war in 320 years. A mini-civil war.

M'lud, my client discovered that man climbing through the kitchen window. That he also happens to be a tax collector is purely coincidence. :D

That would be ironic, wouldn't it? I mean, we threw them off because they refused to respect basic human rights. Do you think the crown would finally get the message if some of their subjects closer to home told them to go fly a kite?
