    Partners and guns

If you have a partner (husband/wife/bf/gf) how do they feel about you carrying (oc or soon to be cc)? Are they for it? Against it? Do they carry too?

My wife was deathly afraid of guns when we first met. She wouldn't touch, look at, or think about them. As time went on she got used to me carrying and was able to see the benefit of it. I finally got her to go to the range with me and she is a proud owner of a Walther P22. She doesn't carry yet, buy maybe one day. One funny thing is she gets more irritated than I do when someone makes a negative comment about my gun.

When we met, my GF had never touched a FIrearm, but now has a UT Concealed Firearm Permit, is shooting good groups for a novice, but has not yet bought a gun or started carrying.

My wife will not carry, but I have talked her into getting her CCW permit. Who knows, she might change her mind...

When dating my wife was neither pro nor anti gun. After being with me she is now pro gun and has stated that she feels safer when i carry. She rarley carries (1 we live in illinos, 2 she didnt have a permit). She now has a PA permit and has carried, both CC and OC, several times. I doubt that she'll ever be as zealous as i am about it, but that is ok. As the man of the family one of my jobs is to protect my family. She fills the traditional female role of comforter. Together we are one hell of a team. That said, she is a good shot with her P22

My wife was neither anti or pro when we met. Up until two weeks ago she'd never even shot a gun. Finally drug her out to the range, and handed her my Taurus. Hated it at first, and now she wants to go constantly. She's had a go with the 22 rifle (shoots pretty darn good too), and soon we're going trap shooting (soon as my 12ga comes back from the gun smith).

Will she CC or OC? Probably not. She enjoys going to the range, but she isn't that comfortable with carrying, a decision that I firmly support. She's eyeballing a taser for carry, and I'm ok with that too.

    Baby steps all the way.

At one point in time my wife shot better than me,I fixed that problem by taking my pistol away from her .
I don't know if she will carry a firearm but she does carry pepper spray.

Thumbs up Mine Has No Problem At All With Me Carrying....

My wife has carried a few times but normally doesn't. But she does want to get the concealed carry license and carry her snubbie.

Now the "Ex-Wife"...well, she is an EX because she didn't like guns!

My wife will get a license if and only if we feel comfortable that the list will remain inaccessible to the public. I know as the law is written that this is supposed to be the case but we cannot risk it going public. In the meantime we are going to get a lot of range time in .

My wife never knew what being in the outdoors really was before we got together.
I taught her how to hunt everything, fish, shoot rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers, muzzleloaders, bow and she is an excellent shot with them all. She cleans fish, guts and drags deer and cleans all the other game right with me.

God really blesses us to both enjoy the great outdoors together.

Loves it up north at our cabin (redid the cabin a few years ago and I even taught her how to wire outlets and switches too).

She will be carrying right along with me.

All in all she's a keeper...

Most of my lady freinds have handguns for home protection and I am in the process on introducing them to open carry. One even bought a holster and will (is) open carry when we go out together. Still a little new to OC by herself...

My wife strongly supports me carrying, but does not plan to herself.

She really has no interest in firearms. She carries pepper spray and has come close to using it a few times. She has expressed interest in getting her permit to carry "just in case" but really likes the idea of stun gun. I think for her it comes down to not being able to take a life AND knowing that she would be quick on the trigger when she is scared. It's a lot easier to apologize to someone you mistakenly hosed them down with pepper spay than it would be if you shoot them with your .38 special. Understanding your limits is the first step to carrying or not carrying, and I think she has a good grasp on what those are for her.

I bought this book for my wife. It explained a lot of what I couldn't, or at least it did it better than I can articulate. I recommend it for any of you guys who think your lady friends aren't quite sold on the idea of carry or self-defense with a firearm.

    The book discusses:
    --firearm safety
    --types of firearms and calibers
--the ethics of carry (as it relates to religion, uncomfortable situations when carrying such as when a family member finds out...etc)
--how to dress for carry in all types of situations (from a female perspective)

It goes in to a lot more than this. It answered a lot of questions my wife had about the whole premise of carry. And I want to be clear that this book does not preach to people (especially in the ethics related areas). It's simply a woman's perspective on things.

If you look up the author I think you'll see she's well-versed in things related to firearms and carry. She's also a mod at thefiringline.com (username: pax). I've been reading her post for years on there and gained a lot of respect for her point of view. So when I stumbled on her website and saw a book that might help me explain things to my wife, I didn't hesitate to plunk down the change.

My wife is pro carry. She will likely get her permit, but probably will not carry often, she has an Sp101 ready whenever she wants to though.

My wife liked my Glock 32 so much that she called it her's and started practicing with it. I went ahead and bought a glock 29 for myself. Then one day she feels she "needs some type of safety"

We went thru a few guns from the safe and a couple shops to find something she might like. Found her a nice H&K USPc 9mm that is now "her gun".
Now after a couple different holsters purchases she finally has her's set up like she wants.

I got my Glock 32 back!

    My girlfriend refuses to carry...

...less guns on her than me. If I carry two she insists on packing three. Dammit. Women. Gotta love 'em.

(not just for the sake of the joke, but this happened on at least two occasions. She had the Revolver, the LCP in a conceal shirt and the Walther on her hip). I think she has a rich fantasy life, almost on par with mine, lol.

The best self defense move I ever made was not teaching my wife how to shoot a gun. We have been married fifty years and that may be one reason why.
